Delta Force Vortex Hydro 24 - 4S Single Screw

I saw this hull on the OSE site last year and asked for it for Christmas. Had I known it would be like cramming 10 pounds of sh!t in a 2 pound hull, I would've asked for the 34!! But I think it came together really well and these hulls are pretty nice. I'm supper stoked to have gotten all the electronics packaged with a good CG.

This is my first Hydro and it has not been maidened yet but will be soon pending weather. I don't think I will "jazz" this one up as it looks pretty slick as it is now. It might get paint or a livery after the maiden. There's not a whole lot on this hull in the forums so I thought I'd post in case some of the ideas I had worked for others. Shouts out to Big B from Ironclad RC for his great Youtube videos on how to build one of these hulls. Check him out if you are unaware, he's built a 24 with twins! Very awesome dude with a very awesome channel.

I built this with the intent of it being a basher / speed freak at the sand bar, not for ovals. I opted to keep the rudder on the right because that's how its made to run out of the package and I did not feel like modifying the bracket and rudder to be on the left. This will be fine for my intents and purposes. Die-hard oval racers will say put the rudder on the left, I just wanted to explain why mine is not for those looking to build a racer using this rudder it will need to be modified to run on the left.

Thanks for checking out my Hydro 24:
    - SSS V2 3660 - 2070Kv 2.5Y
    - Seaking 120
    - Power HD 25Kg (20Kg was insufficient)
    - (2) 6500 2S SMC
    - Home made turn fin
    - Speedmaster Mini Rudder with Hydro offset
    - Speedmaster 21 Strut for 0.187
    - Test prop is a 4516

Clean layout! Love simple white boats: makes the appearance of scale that much better!

I race one of those in N2 Sport Hydro. Mine has a Hobbystar 3660 4300kv motor and an old Turnigy T180 ESC. I run it on 2S2P with CNHL 5000 mAh 2S packs. Prop has been an M440 forever, but I'm experimenting now. Currently running an X440/3, and looking for an ABC 1616/3 10-50 to try on it. My turn fin is a Mojo UL-19 turn fin I cut down to size.

Winds are up in SE MI this week so no testing yet but I am anxious as hell to get this thing wet and will report back when I get some packs through it.

Sounds like a fun Hydro. I'm concerned I'm over propping and might start with a 42 instead of a 45 based on your runnings.

Finding a turn fin for this thing was very tough and custom something was the only way to go. Is the one you modified still curved or straight?

Thank you!! I have to admit it took a lot longer than I imagined to set that little boat up but battery swaps are a breeze which is one of my biggest peevs when it comes to these FE boats.

The more I look at it the more I feel the same way, it just looks sharp in all white. I used some leftover vinyl wrap to do the canopy and would recommend it to anyone who is afraid of or just doesn't want to paint them.

Still curved. I basically cut off some of the top, and some of the back of a Mojo UL-19 fin I had laying around, keeping only the lower forward part.

Got this Hydro on the water last night, and the ride characteristics of this thing are impeccable. CG was right on the money and it just looks perfect on the water screaming on it's sponsons and strut like a full scale.

BUT, I had ZERO steering response and that was before my servo mounts came unepoxied. Gotta see what's going on there and will report back hopefully with pics or vids.

Unfortunately I only got one run in with this boat last season before winter set in. I didn't have my GNSS then so I can't tell you exact speed, but it's definitely fast. I had to rework the steering some because I had terrible steering when I took it out. I also picked up a Dasboata prop for it over the winter so I'm interested to see what that does for the boat. I'll be getting back out with it soon and will report back.

Got this Hydro out finally last weekend and she's a RIPPER! Going from a 20Kg to 25Kg servo and moving the linkage to the middle hole instead of the outer hole gave me the cornering I was looking for and more. It was a freaking blast seeing this thing flying on it's strut. I was going with 5 minutes of very spirited run times and my ESC never went over 108 and the motor hovered around 98-101 on a 4516 unprepped prop with 9000mah SMC's leaving me at about 65% which is just awesome. 48mph top speed on the GNSS with the 4516. I have a Dasboata prop for her I will be trying next time out.

Damn this thing is fun. If you can get the hull it's a fun and challenging build but so worth it, even if you're not racing it.

I have some more planned for this boat. More to come.
