10S classic thunderboat 1/6.6 scale electric conversion

Classic thunder boats is my favorite gas class, and I had a hair brained idea to convert one to 10s electrics and see if I could race with the gas guys. I looked up the T2 Insane 1/6.6 scale hull and hardware... $800 plus shipping. Not having had our lay-off season yet at work, I chose to not invest that much right now. Then a fellow club member gave me a race veteran hull and hardware, for free!!

I?ll be setting it up with a castle 2028 780 kv motor, 320amp flier on 10S 2 or 3P and no idea what prop. The mill is 6-8 laps then the 6 race laps. I could throw it in last minute, but still need to be able to have enough juice to do 8-10 laps.

Anybody know of anyone that has done this?

Jesse, the T2 Insane is not a scale boat. Make sure the length and width fits the scale boat you plan to run. Check NAMBA scale rooster. Also check to see if electric can run with the gas scales before investing the time in changing to electric. My Feecraft hull is 51 inches and is to short for most 1/6 scales. Will be looking forward to how your project turns out.

Thanks Leonard for the cautionary words.
I will be looking to add a class to our district and not race this at nationals.
I think Our district Gas guys will let me race this (just not for points). This is the same scale as they run, and it’s a good group of guys that love to race more than be super strict about details.

Will you be posting your build? I'll be starting my 1/6 scale hydro build soon. We could be build-buddies..?

I have all the guts for this massive 53" hydro and my hull ships this Friday from Steve/RC Boat Company.

                  Lets do this!

Here?s my paint scheme, but I?ll make a few tweaks.
Also, anybody have a great idea on how to make the tail fin? Debating whether to make strongly attached, or more of a break away...

I like the Oberto Boy model a lot. How big is your boat, Jesse? Length & width

                              It’s a T2 Insane hull. 49” long by 25” wide.
