    Just GPS'd the boat...

......Hey Ya'll, not quiet the numbers I was looking for. I just used an Android app GPS on my phone to check the speeds of the ol girl.
My Spartan is bone stock (have all the cooling mods) I used Traxxas 2 cell 25c 5800mah lipos and got 38.9 mph, the stock Traxxas 8.4v 3000mah got 28.8 mph. Water conditions were a very slight ripple, wind maybe 8 knots, at the stern one way and head wind the other direction.
I have 4 of the 8v traxxas batts, is there anyway to hook all 4 up at once, or would it even be worth it? I can never remember if the stock wireing is pararlal or series.
Also the amps on ESC's what excatlly is is the amp rating of ESC's do??
Let me what you all getting for speeds.

38.9 mph on 4S is pretty decent.

You can hook up 4 batts by hooking two batteries parallel, then connecting them to the serial connection on the ESC. this maintains the correct voltage and doubles the capacity. But it makes the boat a lot heavier with 4 batts.

The heavier boat will be less prone to chine walking, but you will also sacrifice some speed.

I have a very basic understanding of amps/volts/watts and will leave the detailed explanation to someone who can define it clearly for you. But very briefly, the AMP rating tells you the maximum continuous current the ESC is designed to handle without overloading.

Most ESC's have both a continuous, and a burst AMP rating. The Castle ESC on the Spartan is rated 80 AMPS continuous, 360 AMPS burst, which means it should handle short bursts of "over current" without over loading and frying the circuits.

It is uncommon to see an ESC rated at 400% burst rate, most often they are more like 50-60% more than the continuous amp rating; like 180 cont. 240 burst, for example.

Ive had a set of Traxxas 3 cells in her before, and the thing is wicked fast...I want it to be wicked fast all the time
Thanks for the info on the ESC. So the bigger the batt the bigger AMP you might need? What states the size off the ECU needed?

On 4s you can get away with a 45mm prop which will bring you up to the mid forties. That's about it on 4s though it will have better punch and a bit faster running 4s2p.

Which 45mm do you like?? How do you wire it up for 4p2s??

Why not just run qty 2. 3S packs in series as its intended to do? If you want wicked fast, as you said....4S and that motor won't do it.

I run either x445 or m445 both work about the same on 4s.
4s2p is running two 4s batts parallel using parallel connectors. It extends run time and drastically cuts amp draw.
A well set up spartan on 4s can achieve within 4-5mph of the 50 Traxxas claims on 6s only much more safely. Over 50 on 5s.

In my opinion that boat just isn't designed for high speeds. It is a great Basher though. It's really fun when you have a buddy or two with the same all running 4s around markers. It can take a beating.

OK, so running in parallel, just use one side of the conectors going to ECU? Sorry if Im asking silly questions.....Dont forget ti hit me up about your boat bag when you make it home.

To run parallel you will need y connectors. They let you plug both your pos leads to the pos side and both neg leads to the neg side of your esc. If your running Traxxas connectors I believe they sell parallel connectors from Traxxas. if not you'll have to make some.
This helps lower amp draw and keep things cooler with better punch. Also if your running two 5000mah 4s batts you now have 10000mah of run time.

Fewwwwww, beacuse I bought two of these eailer today, one for the boat and the other for the Slash. So in the boat case, just plug boths batts into the parallel connector, and that into the red and black connector going to the ESC?
