new to RC hobby. Have a question about Miss Geico

I'm trying to get into the hobby.

I found somebody on craiglist selling this setup. He claimed that he got it from somebody and bought battery but never have the change to take it on the late. It's been sitting in shelf for last 6 months. The motor was install by a "pro".

    Here's what I'm looking at
    Miss Geico 29"
Vertigo Motor 34-24, 1800kv-8pole. Castle Reation
    2 x Thunder Power 4450 11.1 V 22c/40c burst battery

    All for $350.
I told him if he can charge it and demo it I'll buy it. He doens't even know it run currently but the people who sold it to him claim it does.

What do you guys think of this setup? Decent?

I know you can get the new RTR boat for about 390 + battery.

    "Pro"...thats funny.

Lets have a look here and see what we have.
    1) An 1800 kv motor...not familiar with the actual motor in question, but the KV rating is right where it should be.

    2) It includes 2 11.1V Lipos....not really suited for that KV motor. If you run them in parallel, it will run (but only if the LVC doesn't kick in). I believe the controller is set up for 14.8v and the 11.1 might not work. If you connect them in series, you hit the whole set up with 22.2 volts and KABOOM!!

So the batteries aren't really suited for that setup and essentially useless to you.

    3) "installed by a pro"....that just sends up red flags all over the place. Buyer be ware.

    4) So for the price difference between a used vs old, you would be better off getting new...full warrenty included and not have to worry about a boat that the current owner has never run, but says the previous owner did.....more red flags.

    5) As for the actual boat, a ProBoat Miss Geiko...thats a good boat from a good company.

Yes I ended up picking MG people many people recommend it. The motor is a helicopter motor supposely. It seem fast but it's not water cool. I'm not sure how good this would run.
I also forgot to added he got some kinda Castle ESC on it? Perhaps this is what allow the new voltage?

One more question: I have a change to pick up a spartan boat for about 215.. IS this even worth it? I read spartan can go bad ass if you modd but the a lot of people said traxxas are awesome but not when it come to boat and spartan aren't going to be as good. I love the way that boat look :D

Those are BEC's , not speed conrollers.

It really won't matter what kind of esc you use, because 1800kv motor is just too high kv for 22.2v

That IS funny... I'd like to know exactly what that means... Not sure it takes a "Pro" to install the two 2.5mm screws involved in mounting a motor...

Thanks guy :), I'll probably stop by a hobby shop today and see what they got there but I'm pretty much set on MG. Now just finding a place to get it.

Just for reference, the MG, Mystic, and BlackJack 29 are all the same hull... the BlackJack 29 has the most "evolved" hardware, which is also retrofitable back to the MG. It will not bolt directly to the Mystic, but can be fitted. (long story, just take my word for it...)...

oh so i actually like the blackjack look better.. I should go for that instead. Basically same hull with various slightly different hardware with blackjack being the latest :). gotcha.
