Mg all out no limits upgrade advise needed

I have a stock MG currently running a 220 b&s, offset rudder, and getting 38-40mph gps. Want to put together a 'no limits' refit but could use some advice. I'm thinking 4s2p with seaking 180 and a leopard 2200kv but not sure weather to go with a 4074 or 4082 and how that will affect the prop I can use, performance, and if the 82 will even fit (will be changing out the mount). I want to be well into the 50's but still maintain reasonable run time and stability. Do I have to run separate bec or off the speed control is fine? Also, I plan on running 2 large cooling loops but I'm not sure what the most efficient way for a cat is to set them up. Any feed back would be great.

with the setup you have written down here but with a m445 you can be into the 50mph mark and still have decent run times, this is my opinion i would remove the bec and run a seperate battery pack for the rx, but you will have to blue print the hull if there is hollows in the ride pads, mine did and i had to do this but hey the boat is solid no more wahwah and runs true.

Thanks CHIEFY, can anyone tell me if a 4082 will fit in the MG and what the best water pick ups are for a cat?

I do not know if the big Leopard will fit, if not you can use a 3674/2200 which is a bit smaller but will still meet your performance goal of 50 mph. IME the rudder is a great place for a water pickup. Drag is lower than most any other method and it is easy to do (KISS). I have also used pickups in the bottom of the sponsons near the transoms, these work well but are tougher to make. Roostertail pickups work but have higher drag than the methods above.

I was really hoping to get the high rpm 2200kv but maintain a lot of torque with the bigger motor 4082. I will difiantly keep using the rudder pick up but maybe a larger hose. Am trying to deside what to use for a second pickup. I'll probably go with this wose-80410-pickup_small.jpg
All though I like the look of this as well small__31_03_2007_11_02_octura_water_pickup.jpg
I'll post some pics once I get started. This boat is going to be super bad. It's getting painted and everything.

seriously doesnt need the second pick up. im running a cc 1515 2200kv / T-180 esc on 4s have the cooling lines running straight through both on the single rudder pick up with no issues, and have only replaced bigger water line. and using a x442 prop getting high 50s with plenty of trigger to spare just could not handle the full trigger with out blowing over it was very flighty but fun
you can buy a new cc1515 on ebay for $100

I'm looking to turn an extra big prop with the 4082 and was unsure how much heat I'm going to create.

Extra big prop on small 29" boat = lots of prop walk and torque roll. Much bigger then a 445 and i imagine you will start having problems keeping the left sponson to stay down. Just my opinion though. There are ways to reduce the effects i suppose.

Ok my mind has been changed. 4074 it is. I'm running a s220 right now. How should that compare to the m445? Also, does anyone else have any thoughts on cooling? I run in really hot water all summer, 85-90+*F, so I'm still thinking I should still add the 2ed cooling line. Thanks for all the input

Use the rudder pick up. You don't need to cool things separate, even if the water is "hot". Doubling the water pick ups doesn't make the water temp lower. I'm usually obsessed with cooling, but still realize only 1 pick up is needed. Upgrade the lines to larger diameter and make sure it flows freely with as little resistance as possible.

the 220 has been good for me (40.2 all else stock) all though I'm waiting for a 642 and 445 to try. Does anyone know if the 4074 will fit on the stock motor mount or if that's even advisable?

Im about to put a 4074 1800Kv in my 2nd MG. On the first MG I ran a castle 1520 motor and thats a little bigger than a 4082. I epoxied over the wood and made a plexiglass brace for the back of the can on the motor to support the weight it had. Worked great even in the crash. But I couldn't use the tupperware top with that motor. I am hoping that I can still use the lid with the 4074 being its shorter.
I will be reinforcing the hull inside with some fiberglass today, I hope if I have time. I took out the battery trays and will be trimming them so they lay down more (deeper) in the sponsons and laying a bit of resin and cloth over them to make them a little stronger too.
I also plan on truing the hull on this MG as well.
