I need to prop down to run 6s though so its not gonna be this week... need to find out about how big of a prop I can run on 5s. Besides your boat is gonna do barrel rolls if you put too big of a motor kinda like it wanted to today

Does anyone know if a x642 is too big of a prop to run 5s on? Next question is why do you have to prop down with more voltage? If it can swing the prop now wouldn't more power be able to swing a bigger prop? That's where I get confused

You have to prop down because more RPM+large load caused by big prop= Imagine trying to climb a hill on a 12 speed bike with the tallest gear. Not gonna happen!

Typically, bigger prop = more load = more amps = more heat. So, you prop down and check the temps to make sure you don't harm the motor or blow the esc.

The Prather 220 is 43.7mm vs 42mm for the x642, and the pitch is essentially the same 2.6 vs 2.64.

5S on that motor will produce 40+K rpm, which is SAW range. Can it be done, yes but again watch temps and amp draw since you are beyond the "normal" suggested range of operation. In other words it shouldn't be a surprise if you blow something.

Makes sense... but how do you what's too big of a prop? You suggested a 38mm to 40mm with 6s so what would work with 5s and again how do you determine that other than trial and error?

If kv is mutiplied by vlts and the manufacture rates there motor to handle 23 vlts which would be equal to 50600 rpms then I should be well under peak load at 18.5 x 2200kv = 40700. Wires are 10 gage from the esc not sure about the motor 5.5mm connectors ec5 on the batter with 8mm wires from battery. If its gonna go atleast I prepped it right..... I think

I'm sure this motor can take 60,000rpms
but if its over propped, things will smoke
the wires will be plenty big enough and good connectors to

With stock motor that's only 1500kv its a lot less rpms that's only 27750 rpms as aposed to 40700 which is where it goes into that gray area so I'm learning. And 22.2 is at 48000+ is really pushing it from what I'm understanding
