    leopard 4074 shaft cutting

Ok so I received my 4074 the other day from ose. The one on the site is red can but the one they sent me is a black can. Not sure if there is a difference but as I'm about to install it I notice the shaft is about 1/4 inch longer and its not a direct fit. Has anyone else had this problem and I would asume the only way to fix it is to cut it down to size which I'm not to happy about

I'm not sure why you would be "unhappy about it" since different manufacturers have different specs for their motors. Why should Leopard have the same shaft length as ProBoat? The Leopard site has the motor dimensions, did you check it before you ordered the 4074? Not trying to be a smart a$$ but this is a normal thing to do when changing motor brands.

Bottom line - if the Leopard shaft is too long, cut it off with a Dremel or similar tool. When cutting, place the motor in a baggie with just the shaft sticking through to keep cuttings out of the windings and magnets.

Cutting the shaft is very common...especially if you ever want to run thrust bearings. Put the motor in a bag and pop the shaft through then cut it off with a dremmel. Smooth the shaft edge and make your new flat spot.

Try not to over heat the shaft as you cut it.

If you have a cup of water nearby, you can dip the hot shaft in water to cool it as you go.

If it sizzles when you dip it in water, you are getting it too hot.
