    Spluttering frustration...

    Hi all,

I have a BJ26 that I am in the process of re-building. I am running speedmaster hardware, .186 flex drive, stock BJ motor with a castle hydra 120 ESC and 4S Enerland Lipos. Stock BJ radio gear.

I am having problems with the boat spluttering and farting around, basically just not running smooth, this causes the boat to jump about and stall out of the hole and is accompanied by short beeps from the hydra. I thought it may be interference so I changed over all my radio gear but the problem remains. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be the hydra??? It is brand new! I have extended the RX cable to lengthen so I could run the hydra up front and disconnect the BEC cable. I have double checked that the soldered connections are clean and everything is shrink wrapped and water tight but I am scared that if the hydra is at fault CC may not honour the warranty now. Any ideas?

i had the same problem & like your self swaped radio gear & the same thing kept happening . I could ony put down to interferance were i run my boat ,cause when i brought 2.4 GHz radio gear i have never had any prolems since . the hydra sounds like its loosing signal & re-arming that could be why its beeping .

Thanks for the replys fellas. I have tried at a couple of different locations, miles away from each other and have the same symptoms which is why I was puzzled if it could be interference. I have programmed the hydra to the cut off voltage for 4 cells which is what I am running...shouldn't this be correct?

        Thanks again for any ideas.

You did pull the red wire to disable the BEC?
Is where are the reciever and ESc positioned in relation to the motor?

Yep, I cut the red wire because I couldn't figure how to disconnect it. The reciever is right up the back corner and the ESC is in front of the motor. I didn't have this problem before I installed the hydra, do you think they are prone to interference?

Thanks Jim, looks like I will be shopping for a 2.4GHz radio/rx.

                Thanks again for your help!

what does it do if you run the stock BJ ESC? Maybe it has to do with the number of poles in the motor not workign well with the Castle ESc

I cooked the stock esc a while back so can't test it But what I do know is that when I run the same radio gear with my other boat I have no problems which seems weird to me. The BJ motor has 6 poles right? You would think the hydra would be OK with it, pretty commonly used motor/esc combination I would have thought?

Man, been doing some reading on this forum about which radio is best to get...can't believe the amount of debate! 2.4ghz v's FM, Spectrum v's Futaba. The tactic radio looks OK, have added a watch for when Steve gets some more in stock else I will have to buy a UL-1 just to get the radio :)
