Fixing the BJ26 Handling Issues

For s & giggles today, I removed my modified and angled turn fins just to see what would happen. I ran it against an exactly the same modified BJ26. Conclusion, I will never install them again. Its a little hard to get to innitiate the turn but once its in it you can keep it WOT the entire turn. Also, when you run these boats w/ other boats, you get real bad chine walking while rolling over other boats wakes. Turn fins removed settles the boat A LOT and it bounces over wakes rather than rolls w/ them. I had to get off throttle one time in a 5 min run because of wakes. My opponent rolled his twice in the straights and had to back off several times to get his to re-plant.
My experience w/ no fins has been a good one. I will try and get some vids soon.Comment

How much run time should you get from say 5000 mh lipos, I heard 3-5 min for most batteries is this true? I was getting 10-15 min in my shockwave 26 bl with one battery basiclly running it the same way, so no turn fins is the way to go??Comment

As for an update w/ the no turn fins. I moved the COG bac a little. Made a strut adjustment, cupped the 642 a bit and went from 40.1 to 42.7mph. Suprisingly my BJ26 over the last month or so has become one of my favorite boats. She a little "floaty" in the straights but is staying more in control than my neighbors whos boat is exactly the same as mine except hes running turn fins still. (cut down and angled). We kept it like that just to be sure I wasnt imagining mine was handling better. We used to run neck and neck and had a hard time catching up to one another if one of us had to back off etc. Now that I can hold corners at w.o.t., I can be a half lap ahead of him in less than 2 laps.Even if I do have to back off b/c I think shes gunna blow over etc, being able to nail the turns is HUGE!!!!

Thanks Scott! This it great info. I'm taking mine off tonight. I have been wanting to try it without the turn fins but haven't had a chance. I always wondered by I don't need them on my HOTR cat but the BJ26 had them. Anything that will help some of that chinewalking would be great as well. That combined with a "Custom Tiqueman Hatch" and I got myself a new boat.
I think the price for the painted hatch is very fair. Hopefully I can get one on order by the end of the year.
Thanks again for this helpful info, YOU ROCK!Comment

SS hardware is nice! I'm converting my old nitro and will be using the SS gear on it. It would make it easier if someone in this thread could possibly tell us how far from the rear, forward, the motor mounts so I can get the motor in the right spot. It would be greatly appreciated! :)
Also, I learned with my nitro BJ 26 that the turn finds don't belong on the boat. Handles way better without them!!Comment
