Looking at getting lipos and a charger for the blackjacks, which is a good buy? The boats have the stock internals and i will upgrade the drive and rudder when i get the new batteries.
Do the batteries have the deans stlye connector also?
the batteries come with the connectors shown in the pic. You should get rid of those, and put on bullets. Deans are no good. Bullets are the way to go, because they can handle extreme current draws. The rhino 4900's on that site come with bullets preinstalled, but are more money.
As far as a charger, I personally use a hyperion 610i duo (old model, but brand new one is available). And my personal adivce would be to spend the money on a good reliable charger. I'm sure others will agree, that when it comes to lipos, the charger is the last place you want to cheap out on. The good thing about the hyperions is that they are very powerful chargers. Way overkill for the 2s you'll be using, but if you ever decide to go for big 6s power in the future, you'll be set with a good charger. Just my $0.02

Batteries on the link are with bullet connectors. Just have to get rid of the red covers but quastion is why? If you install 4mm bullet connectors that will be compatible with battery connector without cutting it out. That is why there is very good value in this battery.

ah, I wasn't aware that there are bullets under there. I thought it was just a cheap pogo type plug. If they are bullets, then yes, those are great value.

Couple of questions about chargers, how long does it take to charge one battery, and who else makes a charger that can charge two batts at once?
$289 for one charger is a little more than i want to spend, even though it does charge 2 batts, are there any other quality chargers that can charge 2 batts at the same time?

Time of charging may be different depending on settings of charger, battery type and so on. My charger needs arround 40 min to charge up 7.4, 5000mAh, 20C lipo at 5A to give you an idea.

just be sure to check the specs before you buy one. The one listed can only do up to 4s. So if you decide to get 5s or 6s packs in the future, you'll be stuck buying another charger. I realize it's hard to swallow the cost, but it'll pay for itself in the future. If you shop around, the hyperions come up used quite a bit. Just gotta wait for the deal to come along.
As far as charge times, it all depends on the mAh. For example, and, if the pack was to be FULLY depleted (at which point it would be useless) you would be putting 5000mah back into it. Charging at 1C (5amps) it will take 1 hour to fully charge that pack. Now, your battery will never be fully drained (or at least you hope you never get there) so that time will decrease. Also keep in mind that charging the last 5% of the pack takes the most time. So if you set your charger to complete at 95% charge, the time will decrease again. So the 40 minutes listed above is about right.
This is an older model and doesn't come with a balancer BUT you can hook up two LBA-10a balancers and do up to 12s. This charger is rated at 180w so it's definetly got some power.

What kind of difference in performance will you get when using the 7.4v lipos instead of the 11.1v and can you use either on the bj?
By the book you can only use 2 x 7.4 lipos to get 14.8V.
Other staff will void warranty but there is ways to use stronger batts, just have to make sure you understand that your on your own....

it all depends on the voltage rate your motor and esc can handle as you dont want to over step that
ie my 150amp Etti will take 18v i think so then you have to decide wether to run the batts in series or parallel
For example
a parelle lead connects two lipos in parallel. This increases the capacity (mAh) of your packs.
, you can make 2 x 2250mAh 3S1P lipos into one 4500mAh 11.1v 3S2 pack. Or you could take two 1800mAh3S1P and make a single 3600mAh 3S2P pack.
a series lead connects two lipos in series. This increases the voltage or cell count of your packs.
You connect two packs together with the leads and add the cell counts together. The mAh stays the same.
For example, you can make two 3S1P lipos into one 6S1P pack. Or you could take two small 2 cell 800mAh and wire them into a 4S 800mAh
you obviously get more punch and power the bigger the cell count and Mah of the battery and discharge rate
