    BJ26 Motor Upgrade?

Im doing a rebuild of a new boat. I originally planned on adding new hardware, and leaving the original esc and motor, but hey, who would be satisfied with that???

I would like some ideas for a motor/esc/prop upgrade. I also am going to use a reciever for my spektrum dx3r radio, any suggestions for which reciever? Would I be better off buying a dx3s setup?

Sorry for so many questions, I am really just clueless for the most part, and want to learn all I can.

Thanks for all the help guys!

From what I've heard and continue to hear about the BJ motor, I would keep it an run it on 6s..
I hear they run like crazy mad on 6s!
or even 5s would be fast

YES, keep the motor, upgrade the esc. run 5 or 6s! It will fly! Lose the turn fins too.

Ive tried quiet a few things with the blackjack

I actually don't recommend losing the turn fins with the blackjack. I had more success angling the turn fins in and shortening them 1/2''. With my experience the boat becomes really unstable without the turn fins. Maybe its just my Blackjack, but you can try it without them and then try having them angled. If that doesn't work you can trim them 1/2''.

The blackjack stock motor really is a good motor, but if you must upgrade i recommend the Feigao 8xl. Ive had success with this motor but i would reinforce the motor mount area and stringers. the extra weight from this motor hanging broke my mounting area.

As for props, With either motor you can try x640, x642, and Prather 220.

You may want to watch your temps with x642 and prather 220, if you do not upgrade the esc.

I use an Etti 150a esc in my blackjack, just because i smoked the stock one.

I'm also using Fuller's Offshore cat hardware

        Just my experiences

My buddy Dave (Dave you need to show your face on here :) Runs this set up.

Now I can maybe get back in to running since the last 5 years I have had nobody to run with.

          Ammo 2300
          4S lipo
          m440 prop
          UL1ESC

          48-50 mph gps'd

The hull actually does very well for the size.

No point in changing the motor, as said change the ESC or just stick with everything like it is and run it with a BEC and 5S.

            5S and X640 or X642 and you will be doing 50Mph +
IMO its not worth 70$ for a new motor just so that you can gain 5Mph.

Yep....the BJ motor is much better than the ammo.

              5S will do it.

Thanks for the information. Im not a racer, so spending the extra for an additional 5mph is something I probably would not do, sound advice.

Ok so the next question is, can someone post a link to an acceptable esc and bec that I could use with the stock motor, and 6s? Also I have been looking at maxamps batteries, but have seen so many cheaper alternatives posted here that I am no longer sure max amps is the way to go. I do not mind shelling out money for good batteries with decent run times. Could someone point a beginner in the right direction here as well?

I have been thinking about using the bj26ss red hardware, but may decide to go with fullers and just anodize them red myself.

What a great forum, a gold mine of information!

Dont think there should be a need for 6S. As said 5S and a bit playing with the strut should give you 50Mph+ on a calm day. Anything above this and i think your pushing the limmits of the hull and its not going to be stable.

The fastest BJ is a twin drive doing 60Mph, others with single drive are seeing tops 55Mph.

Haven't seen any singles hit 60 but I believe Eggy said that twins are hitting 60+. A Suisse twin BJ is pushing 62 now I think under the handle Mudl. He had a few good videos on Youtube. Nice boat....if I were draggin' as I can only imagine how many end over ends you'd be doing in the corners. I agree with the masses here keep the stock motor as it is more than enough for what you need and definitely upgrade your esc. I run 2s 5000 Max Amps and my 5s Rhino 4900 is definitely the difference maker. I've even gone so far as to purchase 8 props and play with them as well as strut adjustment. The 642 s&b is the way to go imo. Battery placement is also crucial or better yet simply configuring your COG for fast planing. Play hard!!!

I've thought about trying one of these motors in my UL-1 on 6s!

hmm are you only getting 47Mph on the 6s, should be more? I did a 48.5Mph run on 5s, that was wih stock outdrive and litle to no adjustment of the COG. Havent tried the 5s yet after putting on the fullers, but so far it's 2-3Mph faster than the outdrive on 4s so should be seeing 50Mph on a good day. Thats also with a X642 S/b/d.

Think yours should be doing low-mid 50's on 6S.
