Re SV 27 Motor and Propshaft

Hello. I really appreciate this forum. My questions today arise from my trying to re power an SV27 with a bad motor.

First: I measured the stock motor and it is 36mm-50mm, and NOT 36mm-56mm. Why is this? Is a proper, size-for-size replacement a 36-50 motor, and not a 36-56?

Second: I happen to have a 36-50, 1500kv motor sitting around. Will this work well here?

Fourth: Is the stock esc or even a 40amp esc sufficient?

    Thanks to everyone . . . .

Either size will work fine in the sv. The sv 27 was my first brushless boat and I have had a lot of fun learning from it. I ended up selling the stock motor and replacing it with the Ammo 2300kv motor. But the stock motor is actually ideal for the boat. I believe it is a 6-pole motor which has a ton of torque! My ammo is a 2-pole motor(not as much torque) and in my opinion too high of a kv rating. It seems that any speed much over 40mph and the sv wants to take flight. I cant run my ammo 2300 at full throttle(even with a small 37mm prop) It is too unstable. Your 1500 kv motor should work fine. You will see a decrease in speed obviously because of the lower kv-rating. And your stock speed control is 45-amps an should work just fine. Also if you are not using lipo batteries already, consider the investment. Going from nickel cells to lipo was the single biggest upgrade I made for my sv. I gained 5mph from switching to lipo. Good luck!!

I think the stock motor is around 1800KV but the 1500 will work and you can probably prop up a bit if running 4S

thank you both. i have it installed now. I will try it out with lipos too, i will probably solder in the lipo saver i have sitting around, as i'm still using the stock esc for now.

It's just a nice upgrade over the stock. The boat seemed really happy with the speed and behaved really well. My buddy has a ammo 2300 in his and that thing is just wicked fast, it's just too fast for me. I feel more comfortable and I think the boat feels comfortable with it is a well. I'll get the gps speeds you asked for, I'm in the process of ordering a new one.

I have a 12l for sale in the swap shop. This motor is faster than the stock one and I have run it on the stock speed control with no problems. Here is a little clip of it.

                      Looks goon man!
what kind of speeds did you get out of it, and what prop did you like with that motor?
                      thanks

No idea on the speeds as we don't gps our boats. I was running a x442 with added cup and temps are all under 140 for a 4 minute rin in humid Hawaii weather.

Well gps'd the boat today. This time I ran with 2x 2s Turnigy 4000mah 40c's and I hit 47.4mph with trim tabs & strut neutral. Boat ran very well no hopping or bouncing. Looked GREAT on the water. Still used a grim 42x55, man I love that prop.

Does anyone think the 11L form HC would be to much for this boat?
I've also thought about the Turnigy 3556 1800kv?
I had my 3rd SV motor go on me today!
I had a cooling issue and she got a bit to hot and slightly demaged the rotor..
temp was 176* at the end of the can
I was running 5s on a S220 prop and made some fast passes and did a massive flip and back spin that sent my SV upside down for several minutes.
after drying things out, I tried to back up the speed on the GPS but noticed the boat seemed slower?

but I did manage 47.2mph on 5s right before I brought it in.. and checked the temp of 176*
so I don't know if the 55.7mph was a fluke or not
