new SV27 owner...a couple quick questions.

Hey all, I stumbled upon this forum and it is very informative!

I just bought my SV27 a few days ago, and it is fast!

    couple questions..

on my first run, it was VERY unstable, and actually flipped and i had to retrieve her.....dried it all out, re-greased the flex cable and its running like new again.

I adjusted the trim tabs down probably 5-7 degrees, as well as bending the inside corners 45 degrees like i saw in a previous post. it runs smooth as silk now! One question is..while it is obviously a bit slower now...will this harm anything other then speed?

one other thing..i noticed the batteries get pretty hot after 7-8 minutes. They are 6 cell NIMH 3300mah packs...they get to the point where i can only hold them for 20-30 seconds before it gets too hot. Is this normal?

Im in the process of silicone'ing the top lid to help in waterproofing...after that im going to seal the wood to help keep it from "rotting"

any other things i should know right out of the box?

    thanks a bunch!

Hi and welcome to the forum. You should really get some higher capacity batteries. You are pushing those to their limits. Also, you may want to bend the trim tabs so they are flat or 2-3 degrees downward. Put a few ounces of lead weight in front of the motor. Add extra flotation. The price of some decent lipos has come down alot. You can pick up a pair of 5000mah 20C's from Hobbycity.com for around $20.00ea and get a decent lipo charger while you're at it. I think you'll be happier with those.

lipos are where its at. imo anyway. was by far the best thing i ever did to my sv.

if you go that route you will also need a lipo cutoff to protect your batteries from discharging to the point of damaging them as well as a charger capable of lipo charging. i got mine from kintecracing it works great!! you will have pretty good increases in speed and runtimes. i am getting approx 13 mins runtime with 2 5000 mah 2s.

i would get a metal or carbon fiber prop. everyone has opinions on the best. the carbon fiber are much cheaper and do not need sharpened or balanced. ditch the plastic one and keep it for emergency use. lol thats what i did anyway.

i also ditched the stock battery trays inside boat and laid down some velcro in boat to adjust weight forwards or backwards to change handling. as well as keep them planted when the unexpected arobatics take place.

always tape hatch if you wanna keep out the water.

these are just some of the things that got me to the point that i really started loving the sv. the guys here are the most knowledgable people and have the answers to anything you need to know.

          hope this helps

          good luck and have fun

              Thanks for the replys guys
right Now I'm waiting for the wood sealent to dry. I should get her in the water today. I'll tape the hatch and I hope between the tape and silicone in the hatch along with the silicon I put in the transom hardware she will be waterproof.
I also balloned the reciever to aid in waterproofing.
I might switch to lipos later on but I'll stick with my current batteries for now

              thanks!

Get your balance point about 8 inches from the transom. I'm sorry if someone already told you in the thread.....I didn't read from the start..

As other have said......you will really love the lipos. Like Dom said about Hobby City......They basically are 27.00 per shipped. You can't find decent NiMh's that cheap!!!!

I have 4 packs currently, and have 2 more on the way. It's taken me about 60 or so runs to get my SV to be a fast and stable boat. Of course this is my first boat and sometimes I have a pretty steep learning curve

I have my tabs just a tad below even with the bottom of the hull. I did have the corners bent at the 45deg like other have stated to help with chine walking, but found if you have it balanced at 8" then the chine walk almost goes away in rough water.
My strut is just a little up from netral, running a 42x55 two blade Grim prop, but I'm gonna try a carbon 45 and see how it runs. I"m currently getting consistent 38 to 41 mph runs with the current setup

You might want to consider a better cooling jacket for the motor when you start "upgrading" I put on the OSE metal one for the SV and motor runs much cooler now. I also have a "self produced" left side turn fin. Now my boat truns better left than right I in process of making another for the right to replace the stock one. It needs to be just a little longer.....

Have fun....this has got to be one of the best experiences that I have had in any aspect of RC.

How long does it take with shipping from HK? Shipping for two packs for me came out to $14.99 for the cheap method. Still two packs for under $60 is a steal.
