ul-1 prop problem

    O great lol ... I keep hearing drop the prop but my boat outta box the strut height came in the lowest position it can be is that right?? Also the rudder is in lowest postion. The prop angle was set at well I measured the black slider peice between the 2 stationary peices, from top to where all 3 peices meet and its 9/16th of an inch does all this sound right for stock setup im sure every boat should leave the line the same unless mine was a monday hangover boat. Im headed to pond now with me boat and tools let you know how it went shortly thxs again everyone

        Not good... I made like 5 different strut angle ajustments , either the boat didnt want to plane, would plane sometimes but not everytime on same adjustment , when i finally got it to plane it was outta control dancing all over the place and i wasnt even at w.o.t. , very lite chop was in a. small pond. Im thinking i screwed prop up. Im goin to take this prop to my buddys at aeromarine see what they think. To top all this off i had to go for a swim lol. Boat just died, water was not warm by no means lol. Think the receiver got to wet IDK but i sprayed some mositure displacer in it seems fine now. O and my sterring servo went ape crap on me. Upgraded that already what are the specs on that stock servo anyway and im sure its not waterproof maybe im wrong who cares its gone. Im thinking im just goin to keep stock prop on and put angle back to stock good thing i marked its location. If I want more speed for now I have a 2200kv mamba sitting around collecting dust. Im wondering if the stock prop can handle it?

          ive never had the electronic issues you've had with it. i dunno there, but like i said, strut height wont make any difference if the prop isnt done correctly. mine does dance a little at 50+ mph so im going to upgrade my rudder soon

            Yeah i woundnt know what correct looks like thats the problem and speaking of rudders i saw something about sharpening the stock rudder any advice, how and why? Thxs

              Agree with Dana 100% on the 40/57 not a good prop for a first timer but in experienced hands can be made to work very well .... Look do what i and many others have done first couple of times buy a professionally s&b prop for 2 reasons, firstly to save some of the drama that you are having and second to have something that is done correctly that you can take out, hold in your hand and look and learn from the first few times you do your own props.
              If i was starting again i would go with an M440 with about 1" on the strut and a 1/4 to 3/8 air dam if the water conditions where you run are anything but very smooth.
              Good luck and dont get discouraged also buy some decent tape LOL

                Jamie thxs alot any advice on the rudder how to sharpen and what tools and of course what exactly are the benefits . i did see where to make the cut at on a diff thread o btw the tape might me the only thing i got right bought that at aeromarine everything else i did on my own lol

                  Mate im not sure why you would want to mess with the rudder i havn't apart from angling it back for saw runs.
                  When i was running my ul1 stock motor and esc i didnt have to do much at all, just used an M440 s&b by o.s.e and the boat went great, got on plane easy and happy hopped to 46 mph. LOL ...I wouldnt fix wat aint broken

                        Mid 40s set up well ... the x series will have some bite for you to get on plane and is a medium lift prop so it should still run a little loose ... not the fastest but would be a good start to learn about setting up the rest of it for ya i would think.

                          Hey Jamie I saw a 435/3 prop will that work. Also the prop you suggested in a 2blade prop. What the difference in running a 2 blade vs. a 3blade ... advantages and or disadvantages. Thxs alot

                            A 435/3 will work but your getting smaller on the diameter so i would think it will be slower, possibly no quicker than your standard prop.
                            Like i said i ran the m440 which i think was my first octura prop and i was happy with that also the m445 and an air dam, the x438 i mentioned should get you on plane fairly easy ... 2 vs 3 blades that argument could go on for ever LOL but some say the theory is 3 blades are faster out the hole and 2 blades are quicker top end with a little less cavitation, but im pretty new to this stuff to so nobody shoot me

                              Thxs I got an airdam put on last night. Ill see if I can get a prop from the guys at areomarine. It seems like all the popular props are always out of stock here. I appreciate ur advice take it easy.

                                Say, you might want to get away from that prop. Sounds like thats most of your problem.
                                I,ve had 4 UL-1's, and still have 2 of them I play with. Another great prop is an octura1440.
                                I run a grimm 42/55 on mine at 1" depth @ 0 degrees angle, without issue. It's faster than any 40/57 I ever saw. If you use that prop, make sure your boat has the large cap on the ESC, and watch your temps.(1min,2min,3min) Mine temps about 115* across the board(ESC,motor,batteries)after 3min,and is about as hot as it gets.
