    ul-1 prop problem

Hello I am having prop trouble for a ul-1 I bought recently. Its a 40 x 57 3 blade prop. I sharpened and balanced the prop as instructed with online instruction since it was my 1st aftermarket prop I have ever bought. The issue is that when I put it on, the boat has no get up and go it cant even get on plane as it just wants to nose dive. I put the stock prop back on , no issues whatsoever. Does anyone know what I did to goof up. Thxs Rob

Can you give more info such as strut depth / angle and battery type & size or post some photos ... The strut angle would be the first thing i would look at, get it close to 0 angle or slightly swept back look on here for photos and info

Measure bottom of hull to bottom of strut its a lot easier, stock position should be around 7/8" or around .900 thou. If you lower the strut much more than about 100 thou it starts increasing the angle too much so you need to (be careful here ) work the shaft tube so that the angle is not increased.
As suggested go in steps but 1 '' and little or no strut angle should get you on plane.

Mine gets up on a plane and my strut is at 7/8. Its all about how good your prop is.

I have been doin alot of reading on the thread that has like 3000 views like 10 down from this one. Most of it im understanding but some is greek to me. It would have been nice if the instructions to this boat had a glossary and a diagram, cad drawing or something to help us noobs understand defination of terms and locations, but anyway... It looks like I have alot to do to get this thing faster than outta box. So right now I guess I need someone to help me with close enough settings for the prop im trying to use. I do understand how to set c.o.g. but as for setting this strut with angle and height adjustments ,sharpening rudder how and with what tool , whats the deal with the hole that needs to be plugged up with epoxy when sharpening is complete? Also there is some termanology and quotes from that thread im stumped with like , downward angle is that positive or negative pitch per boat instructions and flatten the strut and this quote from grimracer " set the turn fin so the top of break is parallel to the foot print with your 15/16th strut height" thxs to anyone who can give me some simple advice trying to use 40x57 prop... man I thought helis where tough these boats are just as hard with setup. I guess its just one of those thing when it clicks it all makes sense. Thxs again Rob

You've picked in my opinion, the, roughest prop made. Most guys drop the strut to get it to work, but really the prop just needs so much work. It's not just about making the edges sharp, but thinning the blades over the entire blade. The 40/57 blades are as thick as quarters. They need to be ALOT thinner. I've run that prop on my ul1 with the strut all the way up and still get on a plane no problem. I literally spend 4 solid hours with files getting that thing nice with hand files. It's a tough prop if you've never done one before. Negative angle is when the prop is pointing at the floor.
