I got a good speed but need some more

I have looked over other threads, including the sticky on suggestions for the UL-1.
Last run I GPSed her at 43 MPH running the GrimRacer 40 x 52 3 blade Prop and the strut at 1". The time before that I was running the GrimRacer L40 x 57 3 blade Prop, and ran 41.5.

What else can I do, excluding an air dam (mainly because I don't understand how to do it) to push some more speed out of the UL-1. I'd really like to get it to 50 mph.

Also, I was running zippy 4000mAh 40C Lipos.

    Thanks for the input!

Set up is every thing 1" strut should be good try level and 1-2 degs neg on strut also move batteries back till the boat gets loose then forward again till it calms down and check cg and mark it. Are all your props S&B? If not there are people here that can do that for you. Very impotent sharp props are a lot faster. good luck post some photos so we can help with your set up. What do you use to set your strut on? I use a thick piece of glass very flat and straight.

All of my props are sharpened and balenced. I actually could use some more informtion on adjusting the strut. As far as I can tell just loosening the screws allows me to move the strut and prop up and down. How do you keep it at 1" and adjust the degree of the strut?

This is all new to me so I'm still learning how to do it. That's partly why the summery thread wasn't useful to me because I wasn't sure what everything was referring to.

You can't use the stand that it came with to set it on for adjustments?

        This should help

I have a Vac-U-Pickle But the adjustments are all the same First you will need to modify the stuffing tube to make easier to adjust see photos. I also made ride hight stands so its also easier see photo. To get some neg angle on the strut cut the head of a straight pin and use like a feeler gage its about .022" will give you 1 to 2 deg neg hope this helps.

When you cut the tube of about 3/4" to 1" push liner into strut and use heat shrink to seal it all up now you can adjust strut much better.

The stuffing tube is kinda stuck to the strut, when you adjust the strut it should automatically maintain a slight negative strut angle for you. Try going a little deeper may a 1 1/8" make sure you have only the 3 ride points touching when you set the depth. Stick with the l40x57 prop, best prop for stock power.

No you can't use the stand, you have to use a corner of a bench so that the turn fin can hange of the edge and on the 2 sponsons and strut are touching the bench then measure from the work bench to the bottom of the hull as close to the strut as you can.

Great! Thanks for this input so far. I will try out these suggestions as soon as I get an opportunity and hopefully be able to run it sometime soon and see what happens!!

              :)

OK, so I took the UL-1 out today. It still works great and I got a little more speed this time. GPSed at 44.7 MPH.

I set the strut at both 1" and 1 1/8" with the neg angle. I actually didn't notice a big difference between the two however I did notice a problem with the 40 57 prop. Whenver I ran that prop it only cavitated and wouldn't jump on plane for some reason.

After I switched to the 40 x 52 it jumped on plane immediately. That was the prop I was able to get the 44.7mph runs on.

I also got to race today, it was pretty awesome. Funny thing was the other UL-1 was stock running the 40 x 57 prop and mine was on par with it with the smaller prop.

My goal is 50mph if possible. Ill post a vid of todays run after it loads onto youtube.

                Thanks all

some of the guys that run in the club are running x440 prop on there UL1, I think the fastest one is using a S&B and back cut P220 (Prather) withs some pitch worked in it, wicked! I dont know the strut depths on those boats. also a 442 seems popular in our club.

Is that prop sharpened and balanced? Sometimes its take a little bit to catch, after it does its submarine impression lol. Once it get on plane look out cuz its fast, with a s&b 40x57 and that strut depth/angle you should see 50mph. Try hand launching.

Can you run the octura without overheating the components? Also, is it the 3 blade x440?

That prop is defiantly S&B. I did hand launch once, but it didn't seem any faster. I was just more concerned that I couldnt get it up on plane from a stop.

That was running the grimracer 40 x 52 and thanks.
Whats the difference between the x440/3 and the Grim I'm running?
