From what I have seen many have had success with an abc H-5 or a Grim 45x68.

I run a Grim 42x66 on my FE-30 with a top speed of 53-54 mph. A very good oval racing prop. The 45x68 heats things up too much the way I run, it might be okay in the winter. The H-5 has a lot less blade area.

Jay is that prop just B/S or is it de tounged and pitched/cupped up? Would like to know so I can try one. Running it on a Whip, Have an H-5 and a M445 to try as well. Thanks Jerry

What do you consider to be too hot? I have a ul-1 with a 45x68, with 80-85 degree ambient temperature, after a 6 lap race I am between 120 and 130 on the motor and about 115-120 on the esc. If your boat has everything set up correctly on the driveline (everything is lined up correctly etc.) you should only run into heat issues if ambient temperature gets in the 90s. Just my opinion. Also the H-5 and 45x68 are, on paper, supposed to be the same prop.

In my post I stated that the way I run it heats things up too much. On a 105* Texas summer day with 90*+ water the ESC temps are 'way too high in my FE-30 with that prop after a one mile heat running in the mid-50s. I thought the prop would be okay in winter. If you looked at the two props you'd know they are 'way different. "On paper" means nothing.

BTW I've been doing this FE thing for a couple years now......

A lot of guys in our club run the H5 on the PT. Speeds comparable to Fluid's above. They get hot though. I have a heat sink clamped onto the endbell.

I have a H5 on it now. Came from Mark Shoulund (worked). Doesn't seem to run hot where I live in MN. after 6 laps. Just looking to get more than 49mph out of the boat.

I ran a M445 on a UL-1 and melted some things. Just don't care to go through that again.

For what it's worth, here is a side by side comparison of the H5 and the 45x68. For whatever reason, the H5 was considerably faster on both my Stealth and ML. Can't say exactly why. However, I'm leaning towards the 45x68 being 'too thin'!!! I think I may have over did it on the thinning.

Thanks, I thought I had an H5 it turns out its a 45x68. I'm getting 49mph in heat trim. The 42x66 ran slower and much hotter. A worked 438 was the best at 51mph and not even worm!

One thing I've noticed is that the H5 likes to run with a HIGH STRUT on my PT. Too low and it bogs down....and slow (like you've mentioned). The downside is that you drag the rear end with the high strut. However, if your CG is way up front, you may get away with a lower strut.
