    12" scratch built cat

scaled shocker plans and a revive after 6 years,,,

here is video should be in hi def

watch out for the outboard sponson... and the pool walls

I can provide plans if you are really interested in building one...

Edit, this boat is the v1 model, while the rest of the thread is about V2. I widened the deck and flared the sides in an attempt to add stability... wow it worked beautifully!!
Here is vid of V2: https://youtu.be/dHzuyOpLMvk

Cool boat but looks like the video is sped up. Is it built out of wood?

Can you post some pics of it? Would you be willing to sell a hull built? I don't have the time to work on my own stuff at this point and some of the campgrounds we go to have small ponds that id like a small cat to run.

could be, are you looking for a bare hull or a ARTR? these guys are pretty time consuming. I was thinking of modifying the plans and building me a second - I could build two in tandem and see if you would like. The current one is 12" by about 3.5" - I am thinking of widening it some to add stability in the turns but still keep her good lines. Not sure when I'll get to this project.

Bare hull is plenty fine. I build all my boats. Just don't have time to construct a hull too. Wider would be fine with me.

spent some time yesterday scaling down my 24" cat - not too hard, just take everything down 50%.
1/16" ply bulkheads, 1/16" basswood for stringers (ends up straighter) and 1/32" skin with 1/64 outer layer.

here are the twinsies ready for some skin. black is carbon fiber strand used to maintain strength during construction.
              length 12" width 5.5" tunnel depth 0.5"

Plans are on two 11x17" pages in pdf form and wood readily available at hobby shop.

I can send plans if anyone is interested in building one - laser cut would be a nice time saver....

                    Hello Jesse,
You always build cool boats with cool music to accompany it. Good job!

                      carbon fiber tissue

got the bottoms skinned yesterday. laid in a feather weight of tissue and west systems epoxy to seal up and rigidify the interior. Next is the 2 part foam to make it bullet proof.

never fear, take your time and keep at it and before you know it, all done!
A good jump start is to get them laser cut. All out of 1/16" ply. Then one 24 x 12" sheet of 1/32" ply for sheeting.
