I found this.. not the page I found it on before, but the formula I was refering to

Supply voltage X Motor KV X 0.9 = Approx propeller rpm

Im guessing unloaded

Does that seem legit? Im asking because Im thinking that the formula I originally found was different because I remember the guestimated rpm for my boat was upper 20k with the 11.1 and in the 30s with 14.8

With this Im showin just over 20k (11.1) and just over 27k (14.8)

The motor has 2045 KV on it. As for the boats hardware, thats all my knowledge

Ive got a BJ26, and this Imex cat. The Imex cat is what I ran the numbers on.

So are brushless motors kv ratings and such different from one vehicle to another, ie planes to boats to cars?

The KV ratings for motors are the same. The loads are different. Is the motor in the BJ26 the same diameter as the one in the IMEX Cat? Which motor is longer? Did they ever respond to you about the ESC specs? Do you have the manual? Maybe that has the specs.

No they didnt... and with that, a manual... nah, seems Imex doesnt supply thier boats with manuals. Manuals are for people who want to know what they have, and who cares, you charge the batt plug it in ang pull the trigger

Wait, so did you see in there somewhere that the formula was for loaded props... and if so... man I must be tired cause Im comin up with all kindsa stuff... and if so (loaded) wouldnt each prop load different in the air as to size pitch etc.???

Im not fighting you on this, cause lets face it, I dont know what the he77 Im talkin about when it comes to brushless. Im just curious to what you think...

No problem. It didn't explain in the article. But it does mention outrunner motors. I don't feel that it applies specifically to boats. The site caters to EPP (Electric Powered Planes). So it is a 540 sized motor. If we only knew the specs. on the ESC we could determine if going 4s would be beneficial to your setup. On 3s it might not give you the "Wow" that would put a big smile on your face.

I would email them again to get the specs. It might be worth it or buy a known ESC that can handle at least 6s.

LOOK WHAT I JUST FOUND!!! However, the motor and batt doesnt seem to match what came with mine BUT... If you look at the pics, specifically the shots of the motor electronics etc.. ITS EXACTLY WHAT MINE LOOKS LIKE

Mine says Imex.. these are AMAX????? Ones the US dealer, and ones China???

Oh and the size specs.. as Imex's specs are wrong. You can even tell by looking at the pics, that hull is NOT 50+ inches long. And like mine it is NOT running a 78mm prop

I just ran the numbers in FeCalc using a Feigao 12L KV=2048 3s and a Octura X440 prop (1.4X40mm) and it gave a speed of 33 mph. On 4s the speed jumped to 42 .6mph. Fecalc is not accurate but it does give you a ballpark figure.

Yup which is originally what I was going off of. The AMAX site, suggests a different size, however, look at the pics, the first 2 are of a different boat, than the last 4 which are of my boat. The KV they list as well as batt does not match what I have. The motor looks from the pic exaclty as mine... everything in the pic looks exaclty as mine. So I wonder if the ESC is a 100 Amp as they suggest???

I sent them an email as well

If it is a 100amp ESC that can handle 6s, I say try it with 4s after you get the rudder.
