    H&M Lifter 43.4 mph!

Today I put my H&M Lifter on a gps for the first time! the results were impressive! is this a decent speed for 12 4200s 8XL and an M440? I was hoping for at least 50mph.I tried a M640 and the boat went 38.3 mph, to my surprize it was faster on the M440 prop. I didnt get to try Lipos though as my cuda 125 died again (I have yet to have a 125 last for more than 2 packs) and I got the 125 back last week! Time to get a hydra!

oh boy I didnt realize my pregnant wife is in one of the pics

IME with modern NiMH power the 8XL works best with smaller props. My P Sport boat runs faster (ca 50 mph) and with lower amp draw with the m440. Along with your speed the fact that your ESCs keep dying says a lot for your setup - it draws too many amps. The B125 should run forever on your setup, mine did. You do not need a Hydra, you need a better setup....

So what is the problem? There are several possibilities:

      1) High driveline drag due to poor alignment between the coupler and the shaft, too tight of bends in the stuffing tube, not enough gap between the drive dog and the strut, too much flex in the hull bottom.

      2) Wires too long between the ESC and packs. With NiMH cells this should be a total of less than six inches total between the ESC boards and the first cell in the pack.

      3) Wrong timing setting on the ESC. Set it at the lowest timing advance setting, more advance will cause overheating and a blown ESCs with little speed advantage, especially for sport and oval racing.

      4) Boat runs too wet. This is caused by wrong CG, wrong strut depth, wrong strut angle, wrong wing angle. The Lifter can run very very fast, several in our club exceed 50 mph easily on very smooth water without overheating.

Let us know how the boat is set up, preferably with photos. Then we can help you to go faster and to save money! :)

BTW, we have been having much better luck with smaller diameter props. I know most of the race guys tell tou to run 40mm-42mm and they do work but I have found that the 35-36mm props not only run faster but keep the system cooler.

How much gap should there be between the drive dog and the strut? That is a sweet boat jeepers.

It measures from transom to tip of sponson 24 7/8 long. I think I agree that the smaller 440 prop worked better than the 640. as the speed was that much better!

Iam gonna say these 2 items, but i will let you be the judge of that. I just picked up a hammer head soldering iron so I can make wires even shorter. here is some photos for you. thanks!

Man I love that boat!!, its a shame Pinochio is the only one importing them
maybe a m445 would work, my Taifuin (lsh) runs 42 and change with one.

here is some more pics! I have the timing set as low as it can go I put a "check mark" on the timing I used. the speed control works it powers up and it does turn the motor still, but it "misses" like it turns the motor on and off rapidly. I have had this problem in every cc125, no matter what boat, motor, prop, radio, batteries I use, I dont have this problem with any of my other speed controls, and it always happens on the second set of batteries, I run 5 laps on the 1/10, oval. today nothing came in over 80 degrees. water had slight chop and the transom would hop at the top end of the straights.

when I ordered this boat (phone) Chris told me it would ship today, this was on a monday I had it wed. morning at my work 10:30 am(2 days) and I NEVER pay for express shipping! the cool thing though is I traded a guy a 1/8 scale gas buggy, for the hardware, motor, and some cash!

Wow it is smaller then it looks in the pics for sure. That is about the same size as the Viper hydro.

The prop hopping at the end of the straight tells me you may have slightly too much down angle on the strut. And that hopping creates huge amp spikes, tough on the controller.

Set the B125 to medium starting power and see if that stops the cogging. None of mine have ever done this. Odd. I assume you are not using BEC and that you have disconnected the center wire in the receiver harness.

Also, check your temperature gauge. Five laps with the above setup in the summer means motor and cell temperatures somewhat higher than 80F. And 80C is way too hot.

                              .
