    Q about flex cables

    Would a .098 flex hold up to a 540 7L on 8 cells?

No no no. At LEAST a .150 cable or .187 even better on 8 cells!

You can probably get away with a .130 cable if you don't mash the throttle on starts.

You will not hurt 130 with 8 cells. I had a couple big boats running 130 on 12 and 16 cells on 700 motors long ago. Never a problem.

Alright. Thanks guys. I've only used wire drives before so I wasn't sure. :)

OH! You didn't say NiMh! BIG difference. Most of the talk on here is about lipos so I assumed you meant 8 LIPO cells! Even with 8S NiMh, the motor has too much power for .098 cable. The guys are right. .130 shaft will work OK. You can buy cables with stepped down shafts to 1/8". Steven has them: Product ID: oct-oc64pkg Octura .130cable system for 1/8" props. AND Product ID: oct-oc64pkgps Octura 3/16 to 1/8" prop shaft for .130 cable & 1/8" props
