Its strange how just one or two guys can ruin the whole 'feel' of a forum, some say just ignore them, but kinda hard when there posts are all over the place.
One particular nupty is always on the RCU gas boat forums answering every single question known to man.
He never goes boating himself and uses other peoples experience to answer other peoples questions and gets a real kick from being thanked for it.
Anyone who dares to question his own experience gets a proper mouthful,so guys usually just let it continue.
I had a slanging match a week or two ago with him, cyberspace of course, his domain, but i will be bumping into him personally soon.
The fool should be banned, the place would be a much nicer place.
Pretty sure you know him,IF,you frequent the gas boards.

also sometimes its not the people that are just plain mean, they wont argue with you but....

their was a guy over at the toyz forums that really had no idea what he was talking about , he just wanted to get his post count up really high because he was 10 so he would give people bad info and one newbie even blew an engine in an xtm rage because of him i even remember one instance where he told someone that the spur gear mesh for their car should have 3-4mm of play!!!!
long story short he was banned and then proceded to talk trash about the toyz on other forums

their was also someone else who was very helpful in the forums but just pumped out the drama about how he was recovering from a drug addiction and always talked about his ex gf so he was banned

the only two forums i frequent are here and thetoyz and imo they are the best because they are just helpful people in a no bs atmosphere.

I had an issue with their Boat Moderator a while back.

My Rio 51 (electric conversion) was snapping shafts , I'm currently on my 4th and it seems to be holding up well.

I posted in the gas section to see if anyone else had this problem (as it is a gas boat, so that would be where an answer to my qestion would be). I did state in my post that it was an electric conversion.

Shortly afterward, I get a message that my post was deleted as it was not on topic and a suggestion that I post my question in the electric forum as I would get a better response there. (Call me stupid, but I don't think there is a huge population of Rio 51's convertedt to electric on the planet)

          Here is the message

The message you posted in Speed - RC Gas Boats ([url]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/> titled: " RE: AquaCraft Rio 51 Anyone?" has been deleted.
          > Reason:Off topic, completely different boat. You posted in a gas boat forum. Please post in the electric section with your electric Rio posts, thanks.

Its still the same hardware as the gasser so the question is relevent as more people would have experience with it in the gas section.
          Thanks for not being helpful.

          So I get a reply;

Same hardware? Um, not even close. I have both of these hulls, 2 of each so I have to totally disagree with that. Haven't broken mine on my electric yet, has several hours run time stock on it. The gas section is more popular, however you'll get a more experienced response to your question in the appropiate forum. Sorry, just doing my job.

So you have an ELECTRIC RIO 51 as well, wow I wasn't aware of that. Or are you thinking of the Mini Rio.

The hardware on my ELECTRIC RIO 51 is identical to the gas boat as it is factory stock hardware. The only difference is that I put a much higher horespower motor in it. This is a modification no different than the other guys putting higher horespower gas engines in it while running the stock hardware. I have snapped 2 prop shafts and am just wondering if anyone out there makes something that will take the extra power while fitting the stock hardware.

I'm a bit confused as to why you think the hardware is diferent????? Please explain your reasoning for that.

So what electric motor do you have in your RIO 51??

          John

          So I get no reply

          So I Emali him back;

These are great replies here! All of you guys that chimed in here have given me plenty of good advice on my builds in the past...and I really appreciate it!!

As a group here on OSE...you guys are the best! Coming here (OSE Forums) after quite a few years of glow boating and switching to FE has been very informative and very interesting to me...Thanks guys!!

I've NEVER had any problems here...Can't say that about any other forums...

one thing i dislike about nearly all the forums is some new guy will ask a question and he recieves no answers for a few days,so you try and help the person with a few suggestions the moment you do some so called expert jumps on saying its the wrong advice.
and a lot of the times the question asked is one of those grey areas of rc boating were they out come depends on so many variables dependent on setup

My favorite is the new guy, who says that he is a new guy who knows nothing that asks a question. You answer his question. And his response starts with....

                  Well, yeah, but....."

Then he proceeds to tell you what his buddy heard for a guy who had a friend who knew a guy that said...... All in argument with what you told him.

Perfect example. I just sold a 100cc airplane to a guy. Never had a gas plane, just smaller electrics. I told him exactly what fuel to use, what oil to use, I even gave him a $12 quart of the oil. The plane needed packs so I told him exactly what packs to use and where to get them.

About 1 hour after he takes delivery he is on an Internet forum asking what fuel to use, what prop (the plane came with the perfect prop for it), what oil, what batteries, etc. Then all the experts come out telling him how to set the plane up, etc.

I make several posts telling them the plane has been flown for many gallons on this fuel, that oil, and this set up. But that does not deter them.

                  Frustrating to say the least.
                  Don't get me started

I stopped frquenting RCU prolly a couple of years ago now, even then it was obvious for me only 1/10th of the threads (if that) were worth reading. There doesn't seem to be the level (or right system) of moderation. When i was on there, only one person was considered by all the "sheep" to be worthy of taking advice from. Not IMO what a forum is about?

Over the past few months i've noticed a larger amount of people i'd expect to be posting on RCU posting up here. For a little while i thought this forum was going to go the way of RCU, with the bickering and bs on the rise in RCU style
But this seemed to die down, and its been ok since. OSE certainly has changed with its growth though, albeit not in a real negative way.

                    Tyler.

P.S. my vote is for this thread to be closed sometime soon, all this talk of RCU isn't going to be good for this forum

OSE welcomes new members. The people here actually try to help each other. Sure guys have discussions and people don't agree. But they still respect each other and treat each respectfully.

If you would like to run into true boneheads, go to the popular rc heli forum on the web and you will see it in every thread. I have just recently gotten into FE boats and on this board. I have throughly enjoyed reading things that are actually informative without all of the ego involved.

Maybe there are a different class of folks on this forum.............at least so far that is what I have experienced.
