What boat to use with a 1515 1Y and MMM

I am looking to get into boats. I have a Neu 1515 1Y and a Mamba Monster Max that I was running in a LST2 that I converted. I will have some 5S batteries to run.

What would be a good boat for this combo?

Any hull in the 30" range would go good with the 1Y motor even though 5s might be a little to much batt. Also I am not sure the MMM would hold up in a boat with that motor and cell combo. I use them in my 8th scale trucks but boats are MUCH harder on ESC's than the trucks are.

I'm with Ray, I think the Mamba Max will burn up. The 1515 is better matched to a Mamba Monster ESC.

Yeah even the MMM (Monster) may not be the best choice in a boat. I don't think there are any guys that I know of that have tried them in a boat BUT if they are as good as Castle says it might do the job just fine. Just use a small prop at first, do short runs and temp everything.

That 1515 would be perfect in the titan 40 hull and hardware I have for sale......all u would need is a motor mount....look in the swap shop

Take a look at my RRR post reply. I had not seen this OSE thread prior to my RRR reply and it is my 2 cents

The MMM will handle up to 6s Lipo easily and is rated @120 amps continuos. IMO 5s and 1515 1y would be TOO MUCH for the MMM controller to handle in a boat. Not sure, but I would try the MMM with the Nue 1515 1y using 4s (4s2p) lipo power and small m440 prop. The Phil Thomas SS21 would be a good hull...plenty of room for good air flow.

The 1515 1.5y (1500kv) would work lots better with the MMM and boat applications.

                    Thanks.

                    What about a UL-1?

That would be a very tight fit with little airflow. But maybe it would work using 4s and small m440 prop?

MMM is usually about $10.00 cheaper than Hydra 120 esc.

In general the Turnigy 180A boat ESC would be a better ESC choice?

                            Probably.

You could buy the cheaper 11xl Feigao motor (1577kv) and make it work using your MMM and 5s packs. Using 5s power this lower kv Feigao motor should pull less amps than your Nue 1y motor on 4s using same prop. Single 5s1p 35c 4000mah Lipo will work with the MMM and 11xl.

Using the chart below. Try to stay under 32000rpm for boat applications. SAW compitition reguires more rpm sometimes.

4s does sound like a better choice for the 1y. Heat inside the sealed hull will be an issue, even with the fan cooled MMM. I have a spare MMM and plan to use it in my UL-1 on 4s with something like the 1515 1y. Only plan to run 45mph, so the prop will be less aggressive than most. I also plan to watercool the esc, by removing the fins and adding some al tubes. Will have to trim the case as well...

I have had great success with the MMM escs in cars, and figured with decent cooling it would work for a boat. Not the best choice, but since I have one that is what I will use (it has had the bec mod done to it, and if it dies, oh well)
