I see that. At the other place, it's like people are afraid to post. Getting tired of it. enough of that though, every place has its strengths.

          YEAH! GO FOR BRUSHLESS!
Let me tell you this Quicksilver, I started FE boat six month ago and spend too much money, too much because brushless setup are very expensive in France, there are very few dealer for boat parts, so I first went for brushed, with time, reading threads mainly here on OSE forum I've learned a lot, sure I made mistakes, in fact I didn't want to purchase my Feigao from overseas, but I had to, and no regret at all, thanks OSE, I got it in 6 days for half the price I would pay in France, take a look at my web site you'll see my Xcyclone (cheap Chinese plastic copy of kyosho Blue Streak) this is the first boat I've ever built, and it has the first brushless I've ever had!
Don't give up! brushless is the future, as Jeepers wrote, a bl motor has basicaly no life time limit, only the bearings are subject to a minimum of care, lubrication after every running day, but it's nothing compared to brushed, they wear out quickely especialy in FE boat because we ask a lot to them!

Let me give you another advice, use Deans plug everywhere and when you have the budget, get an Eagle Tree Micropower E-Logger that OSE sell, this will help you a lot to understand what's going on in your boat, you'll see if your setup "is in the range" meaning amp drain is at 80% max of your motor/ESC capability, and if you have different type of battery, you'll also see witch one give you the more power and choose the right prop, it's a really good tool to make a setup reliable!

As I mentioned earlier I have a cheap Mystery 80amp BL ESC and the thing has to be programmed with radio stick, this is a nighmare, if you have a laptop that you can carry with you, get the USB adapter for programming the ESC!

Tank you for the encouragment. You realize though you get things from OFE so fast because Steve uses magic to ship his packages. :) He's very fast

I'm ready to use BL, I'm just wary is all. At least I've already got quite a few things down, I keep my wiring short all deans connectors and deans bar 3's on the batts, used 24kt gold plate banana style plugs for motors. I tear down the drive system after every other run. Since I run straight shafts in the jets, I'm pretty adamant about proper lubrication.

Only thing, no laptop. Hopefully it wont be too difficult to do it in shop, so to speak with the USB. Dont have much of an option. I run pretty much constantly at WOT, however also with the jets, you have a tendency to catch air and free spin the motor, so there probably will be a bit to do.

im a little late but i know for fact the reason that esc didnt work is because of the pole differences..... same thing happened to me...... dont be scared to go brushless..... you will have a new found love for the sport garunteed...... you will be grinnin from ear to ear when that thing hits the water....... make sure when you buy a cheaper plane esc that you use an pistix adapter with a pistol grip radio..... good luck im pullin for ya
60% of the time... it works every time!

                update:

You guys will probably be disappointed, especially after all this trouble. I'm continuing the brushed route. However, I got batteries and not just any batteries.
Firstly I ordered new capacitors, a diode, a jeti NAVY 600, and some various battery parts from Steve.
Then I ordered 16 loose IB3600's from Battery packs store.com

Very excited. I was still reluctant to order from China, not just because of the shipping, but also they just moved their warehouse. I dont want problems, and I'd rather give my money to the US instead of the country that is continuously taking over larger and larger amounts of our economy. Not to get political, but I think it is a problem and I should buy American whenever I can. I do own a toyota, basically I'm not freakish about buying american, but I try.

I figure brushless will make a good winter project and hopefully by then steve will have some cheaper esc's.

Although I'm not going brushless, I feel the batteries should drastically improve performance, run time and fun. Especially 16cells!

since you decided to stay brushed talk to Doozie870 for a brushed motor, TRUST ME, I have ran with a couple of his boats and they make me grin ear to ear watching them run.:D and these were on twelve cells! 16 cells should make that boat move very nice! dont forget to prop down though.

Where did you come by these statistics and charging methods? I ask as this is opposite of all test reports that have been done on the high quality 4200 cells.

I agree. he knows more about those motors than most guys. He can time them for some wicked performence.

Sounds good, I read some of his threads, seems to know what he's doing. I kinda think I'd want to have an extra motor, before I cut my can with a pipe cutter though. Just for insurance, than I'd have a normal reliable motor and one I can mess around with.
