If I used a 5000kv Cyclon motor and an x430 prop would that work out?

sven, you want to try to stay around 30-35K RPMs on these hydros. I run (on my similar sized 1/14th Atlas - my avatar) 8L on 3S and an X632 and get about 60-80 amps pretty constant with 120 amp spikes. Use this as a guide. You will quickly decide not use a 5000 kv motor. That is such a tiny prop and think about when you are hopping in and out of the water, you are talking serious amperage fluctuations....

Spicedcrab was the screen name of the guy who built the vortex in the last link. Check here in the forum.

Where do you guys put your cooling exits? Are there bad places to put them? I was thinking of placing mine on the left side right behind the sponson.

I like mine to shoot straight up, that way I can see that they are working, plus added spray!

I recently did that[behind the sponson] to my 31" H&M Shovel. Unfortunately the spray from the sponson covers the exit[s] while underway and I've yet to find out if the cooling system is flowing properly. Try to locate them where you can see the output while running.

I had to pick up a new cable system so that I could run the x430 prop but the plastic liner won't slide into the stuff tube.
The cable is .130 thick OD
The liner is .194 thick OD
The stuff tube is .185 thick ID

So unless my math is really THAT bad this should fit right?

some people stretch it a touch while they insert, you can put one end in a vise and then pull it (thus decreasing that OD) and then insert it into your tubing. I will be getting the next size up to avoid this step, even though the math does say it should fit...

Is the liner really that nessecary? Cant the stuff tube be filled with lube? What is the liner used for?

The liner helps protect the cable. You can run without, but increase friction and potentially wear the tubing faster. Depends on rpms you are working with, the higher the faster you use up your lube. It is debated though whether the liner is "necessary". I prefer wire drives, but have some cables and all but my micros have liners. Supposedly the liners will hold up for a long time, especially with lots of lube. I am sure there are lots of other opinions, so I guess its not super critical either way.

So I guess if I lube the tube before each run I'd be fine eh?

what rpms? what hull? How much load on the the drive? If it spins fast, metal on metal will not only be louder, but will wear faster.

It also depends on how you drive. I am sure you will be fine, you can go with a smaller stuffing as well. You might want to get some more opinions from people who have more experience with cables that will bring up points you may want to consider.

I'm not sure about the rpm's exactly but I am using a Feigao 6xl in the vortex, and it will be turning an x430 prop. What do you mean by "how I drive" ?? If you look here at my youtube video you'll see how I drive.
