    Prince Mono Hull

Well i am looking to get back into the boating scene, but i dont have tons of money to pour into a boat. So i found this prince boat and i was wondering what anybody thought about it? The one that i like is the race spec version:

Or would i be better to buy a cat? like this one:

I already have a turnigy 120A brushless ESC and programming card. And i plam on running to 2s 5000mah lipo's. Wired to make a 4s.

Both have proven themselves nice boat hulls and hardware. HOWEVER the motors they are putting in are kinda "bastard" motors as they are cheap and easy to find. I would buy whatever you like and put in what you KNOW will work. The Prince looks sweet to me but, there again plan on buying at least a motor from here on ose. If not even a esc perhaps and x power 70A. It will be soo worth it in long run. I would suggest perhaps a 540 S can and again the x power 70A. Then you will have to decide on lipo or nimh. either way it will be sweet.

i like cats too, but i was told that they needed smoother water. I will be driving in moderate waters though.

I think hydros need smoother water... I ran my cats on choppy water with no problems. Mine are 26" and 32" so maybe it handles a bit more stable than smaller size cats.

So if i did get that 32" cat it should handle the rough well? What about flipping? Will my 120A esc work well in it?

if you buy either you need to ditch the motors
on the mono you can run a ammo 2300 with a x440 prop or some guys are running fiego 8xls both will work with your esc.
if you go the cat you can run a 8-9xl

go for the hull only, get any good hardware and a Feigao, you'll be on a budget!
I have the 29" mono with Feigao 8XL 4S1P cheap 100A ESC and I get this
some guys are saying that the chinese hardware, especialy the strut/stinger, are not very good quality...
FYI the 32" cat is a copy of the H&M Agitator... very good design!

I would get the df from ose but he's out of stock

Many crucial things are out of stock

Steve any idea when these items will be back?

so what do you guys think about just the hull and hardware? I would most likely work a deal to get either of these boats without an electronics. So which hull is better, and what about the hardware on it?

                          China 25" mono

Bought one of the Chinese 25" DF mono knock-offs this past winter. Nice hull.
The little outrunner and esc were s-canned.
Gutted the hull, reinforced the bottom, and built a motor mount to fit a UL-1 motor.
                          Fitted a Castle 120 for control (2 x 2s, 5000 mah)
                          Hardware:
the drive (flex w/ squared end that fits into the front of the stub shaft & strut ... not the "stinger type")
was sloppy as a .... and folks reported that it broke easily.
I trashed that, replaced w/ a Hughey flex and home-made bushing cartridge.
The strut needed to be drilled out to fit the new arrangement.
Also lopped the 'nose' off to fit a brass piece.
The rudder is nice ... but had to lengthen the bracket to align the rudder L.E. and drive dog.

To do it over, I'd buy a bare hull and maybe a rudder ... source the rest elsewhere.
(hope to get the boat wet pretty soon)

I wouldn't mind doing it that way, by buying the hull and adding different parts to it. But this is going to be m first boat build so i don't know how hard it would be to mount the motor mount, as well as drilling holes in the hull. If its not too hard then i will buy just the hull.

                              build

I built a couple of FE boats @ 20 years ago.
                              MY HAVE THINGS CHANGED !
So this is my first attempt to get back into the game.

The most important part, IMO, is not the actual job/work itself
(pretty basic skills and tools – drilling, gluing, and etc.)
but having the knowledge assembled at hand to put it all together correctly –
                              hopefully the first time around.
A search here on OSE and elsewhere will give you a ton of "how to" info.
Or if there is a local club to hook up with ?
Finally, it's up to you to decide if you're up to the task.
I will add, that there is a LOT of info about this particular boat on the web,
and some are running the "as it's sold" racing version ARTR and having fun with it –
