Warped Cowl w/pics Suggestions to Correct

The Rico has a warped cowl and I am looking for suggestions to help with it.

As you can see the indent on the deck is ver shallow so there really is no lip to work with, otherwise I'd put some thing plywood strips on it with resin as has already been suggested.

    Comments and help appreciated.

Will tape hold them down? I've had some luck with a heat gun but it doesnt always work.

Maybe glue some carbon fiber rods to the underside of the cowl...

I have the same hull and mine is starting to do the same thing, it's a flaw in the design. Whith no turn down around the edge of the cowl there is nothing to stop it from warping. I am going to put mine upside down on a flat surface with some weight in the middle to keep it flat, the epoxy some cf rods around the perimiter 3/4'' from the edge. I'm hoping that will solve the problem.

This is a problem with the 29" if you build a wood frame as sugested make sure you get it strait before you glue it . the hatch design was made for nitro thats why we had Richie make the 31 and re design the hatch for electric but the 29 is such a good runnung boat its hard to stop building them. build a big enuff frame to lock the hatch in , I have done this on alot of 29 s and has worked well

                Good luck

What is used for these hulls ? Polyester or Epoxy or Vinylester ?

If polyester is used : polyester shrinks. that's why the corners of the lid warps.
So after coming out of the mold you should immediately
tape the hatch on the hull and leave it there for quite awhile.
Or leave it in the mold and put some weight on it.

as the hull opening seems flat or very few curved, an easy solution would be to mold a thin sheet of fiberglass with epoxy or polyester (depending on the material they use to build it) of the size of the opening, that would be a little curved and glue the hatch on it during curing to constraint it to go back in shape and hopefully to remain in shape! Am I clear with my frenglish?

This is not an easy problem to solve eventhough may look easy. I had it in the past.
I used small angled or Π shape aluminium which does not bend and glue it around the hatch on the inside and put force also to make it flat. The wood I think will also bend. the carbon rods are flexible in long lengths and may also bend. If you use the angled aluminium drill holes on the surface that will by glued. You can hold these strips in place by clippers? (sorry I do not know the exact word) You screw them and keep two things together. You can also put some not necessarily on the edges but on the center as well (port to stbd)

Will try the heat/ clamp method first. If that does't work the person I got it from kevin sheren, is contacting rico to see if I can get a new cowl.
I appreciate the input and great ideas too. Need to finish the boat and deal with that afterwards but was not sure if I could save the cowl or just order a new one and get it on the way while I finished the build.

                            There you go!!!
Consider 1/8" x1/4" spruce framework or similar on your new hatch to keep it straight and true.

What a great thing to do for someone!! Will email in a little bit. Dr. by the spruce framework do you mean a rectangle the shape and size of the opening of the deck the cowl covers?? Need some better explanation of your idea, please.
