    VS-1 with UL-1 motor ; Nice !!

Now that WW V's over [ where the Spec OPC Tunnel class was asked to use SV-27 motors and SC's], I thought I'd see what the boat would do with more KV's. While the boat ran strong with the SV setup and a M545, I dropped in a Ammo 2300 KV motor & the Hydra 120 I won at the race. With a X640 she ran OK, and when propped up to a X642, she ran faster but smoked the motor. Dropped in a UL-1 motor with the X642 and she ripped ! Probably 4-5 mph faster than the SV setup. Really looked great underway; I just love the look of tunnels at speed and in the turns !. Just my opinion, but if there's not a Tunnel in your fleet, you're missin' out on some big grins

what kind of speed are you getting out of this set up? (sv and ul-1) this is an outboard? do you have any experience with trying inboard tunnels? i want to build one bad but am worried about running the outboard in salt water, i dont think the bearings will last... my bigest concern is matching the cg without all the weight hanging off the back. im thinking either sv/ul-1/ammo on 4s1p or 8l on 3s1p. i am looking to get low 40+mph please post pictures of your boat..
    thanks...

With the SV motor, the VS-1 ran high thirties. With the UL-1 motor & a Hydra 120 she ran @ 42-44 MPH. With Corrosion-X, you can keep the motor reasonably corrosion free but saltwater is conductive and you might short stuff out. Likely, in fact. MHZ usa has a 35 " tunnel that's configureable for inboard, but you need more power for the speed your' asking for. Aeromarine has a 30" Preditor tunnel that may lend itself to inboard conversion, but you may want to give Randy a call at BBY to see if he can build you one of his "Hooter" tunnels as an inboard. The red TS-2 in the picture is for sale as a bare hull [ it won the Spec OPC class at WW IV]. Good luck.

        Tony,

Here's a snapshot of a data recorder file showing the VS1 with the UL-1 motor and X640 prop. Unfortunately, the pond I run on is only 100 yards long. I think with more room, the top speed would be a little better.

BTW, congrats on your P-mono win in Scottsdale!

I must agree, I do not run my tunnels very often but when I do the fun factor is way out there!!

David, the graph confirms my "guesstimations". Nice work. Try an X642, watch the temps, & rock out !!

I think they're the most fun to race as well. A tunnel heat, all with the same spec power yields some cool 'neck-in-neck" running. At WW IV, there were four entries, at WW V there were eleven or twelve (!). Built by the top racers. I never had some much fun getting my arse kicked

Tony , it was fun because there was always some on to race with , either you were trying to pass someone , or trying to stay ahead of some one. Great fun.

Then there was that heat where we simultaneously gave new meaning to the term " water cooled motor" in turn one

                      It's an AQ VS-1, Paul.

Nice, i thought the top speed was AQ's tunnel, but that one is much better looking, i wish I had bought a VS1 canopy for my last cat, would have been much better than making my own.

                          Finally...someone with both a VS1 and a TS2 that I can ask this question...

Which bare hull is lighter? I'm assuming the VS1 is lighter, but I can't find any documentation that gives a weight of the bare hull. The only weight I can find is "4lbs ready to run" which could mean a lot of different things.

The weight I find for the TS2 is 2.11 lbs for the bare hull.

I already have a TS2 (electric) but it seems pretty heavy (even with lipo packs). Is the VS1 significantly lighter? I may move to one of them if it is.
