    Properchopper's VS-1 build

    Here's where I'm at so far :

1] Notched transom to get pivot plate behind rear sponson tip ; using very cool adjustable Hyperformance mount.

    2] mount in place

3] Hyperformance Angle Drive machined [carefully with drill press] to allow coupler to drop in

    More pix :

1] Motor in place. Used REK/ Fullers motor mount adaptor, Bolts right on !! Drilled adaptor mounting screw holes out from the top & countersunk the screw holes & they lined up perfectly with threaded holes in the Hyper mounting base [ square-end flex shaft had to be shortened slightly to get correct mating end-play]

    2] servo detail

    3] box mocked up.

Awaiting rubber boots to arrive for pushrods & wires to pass through transom.

I kind of figured it would after looking at the rather thick cross section of the lower unit & the way it curves up.[ A bit late, since I bought it sight unseen.] I'm striving to get the interior layout to allow some good rearward CG adjustment just in case. In all honesty I bought the angle drive 'cause of it's "cool" factor, but I do have the REK from my TS-2 to bolt on if the Hyper causes handling issues. Then again, if Santa's good to me a Lawless may just show up.

If the angle drive has lots of lift why is that bad ? it might help get it going

If you look at the boat the center of the prop is level with the bottom of the sponsons and this is where the boat will do most of its running . There is not going to be very much of the leg in the water anyway when it gets up on plane

Bro, ever since this issue of lift was raised I've been stressing about it, but I've been looking at it and looking at it and have the same observation that you have. We'll see once its in the water. BTW, Dave at Hyperformance told me the other day that he has a new drive coming out in January. Maybe it'll be the "de-lifted" version, we'll see.

                        1] : The "pass through" tube farm ; { I.D. of motor wire tubes large enough to pass 5.5's in the event of a bigger power train in the future }

                        2] nipple farm

                        3] SC water lines

                          Gettin' close !

                          More :

1] servo detail [ servo plate will be removeable to get under it ]

                          2] other servo view

                          3] motor/drive

4] SC can raise up to shift battery further aft for more rearward CG if necessary

                          Mock-up's pretty much done ; time to Z-Poxy everything & assemble/glue/seal.
Probably will lay a bead of 5200 to make watertight.

                            Prop.. Looking darn good..

A few things to keep any eye on..

The skeg on that lower unit has a radii on the upper leading edge.. You need to get rid of that.. Also.. the skeg itsself will likey be to small for the boat.. Keep that in mind as you are testing the boat.
