Thanks for the pics Simon. I think I will try and splice into the existing tube and add 50mm or so at the motor end. I think if I use a larger tube that is fairly long that it will be aligned without having to remove it and start over.

P.S. Paddy I was only kidding!

P.S.S Douggie that bit is at least 30 years old.

Yes, but it is still a great comic venue..much better than the potty humour we get today.

Me too Chuck. If I was not kidding I would have told Diegoboy what you really said about his boats.

Douggie I still love that humor. Chuck is still a bit young to appreciate it yet. I must admit Chuck is on to something with this Evil Roy Slade though. That guy could be Andy's brother.

I have set up my sport 20 to run a .150 flex and then just wacked a .078 wire drive in. NO special tube, run stuffing tube into strut as normal. This works great, no slap, no water in the hull and easy to use. Now Jeff has the compresion coupler to suit the .078 even better.

Andy and Simon this very interesting - 2 different approaches that both seem to work. Andy may I ask why you took this approach? Did you want the option of using a cable?

Chuck I started with the flex but it vibrated badly, i think due to length. It is a nice easy bend so tried a wire drive. Fixed the problem, boat was faster, did not sound like a vibrator on Viagra and it worked well.

One for the Jocks and Kiwis

I run a hull with 17" of 2mm wire, less than 2" of stuffing tube, the only bearings are inside the motor and strut, the stuffing tube is oversize and the only part that makes contact is the bit of fuel tubing around the end of the stuffing tube that I use to stop water ingress and it runs fine with no whip or vibration, I take the thrust at the strut, passing the thrust to the motor may introduce whip but I've never tried it to be sure.

Now, I have called Andy and Paddy idiots, here is their redemption. Andy is very easy to spot, Paddy is more cunning

Another approach that works ... maybe I will try it the way it is first and then make changes if needed.

I had to go back 7 pages for this thread. Anyway I have everything installed and bench tested. While I was checking everything I noticed that the rudder was angled in a bit. I changed it so it angled out a bit and was wondering what you guys had for rudder angle or do you keep it perpendicular to the sponson/strut plane?
