if im not mistaking, you are running 1527 1.5d, 1500kv? if so, you will have shorter running time with 2215 EVEN with same props, and i dont think the speed is beter than your motor right now since the kv is lower a lil (1500 vs 1440), but the motor will be much cooler with 2215 for sure, that motor is love bigger props, maybe you want to try Prather 225 or 230
I think I will stick with my setup and just be happy. I have been reading a lot that the 2215's are pretty hard on esc's and draw a lot of amps. I have had zero problems with my 180hv with the 1527 motor so far and want to keep it that way.

Raydee, dont get me wrong, i love 2215 setup, its get me to 72mph oval with Prather 235 like i told you, just a lil warm if you running more than 2.5mins (6laps nitro is less than 1.7 mins), that is what the 1527 motor can't do no mater what prop you choice.

Basically the same set up as yours,, 2215/1Y with 40/160 esc and 2x 4500mah 30C Flightpower lipos... We are going to try some more props this weekend..

What props have you tried so far??

I have found the x447/3 works very well on my Whiplash 40 Q-hydro.. But I am running the 1527/1.5D and diff. hull design than you and Gilbert.... I am getting 60-62mph and no heat problems at all after 7 laps on the big race course...
I got 72mph with Prather s235, Gilbert also knew that, 2215 can swing much more aggressive prop than 1527, I told him about temp as well, and i also told him that setup will handle props up to 3.3 pitch, the temp his boat got is about right to what i got on my boat after 2 mins running but he got just 61mph because he was swinging 3 blade, its loaded up to 30% compare to same prop but 2 blades 450, that hydro does not need alot of torque in the turns, 2 blades is more than enough.
        X450/3 = 2.7 pitch
        Prather s235/2 =3.2 pitch
Prather will be way faster and less heat than x450/3

I ran my PT SS45 today for the first time since the end of last season and I forgot how much I love this hull. I have to admit I have been nervous to run it with the Castle Hydra 180hv with all the plug and puff that has been going on with the CC controllers. I don't know if I just set this bad boy up right or just got a good controller because so far its been great. 63mph with a small 447 prop and about 3 min runtime, the cells are 110* and the esc was 115*. The motor was a little warn at 142* so I either kept it out a bit to long or its getting worked a little . If I run 1.5-2 min runs everything stays at under 110*. I plan to try a 447/3 next time out to see how it does, I know the 1527 motor can handle that for sure.

Nice boat, I have the same hull with nitro power and I was wondering about the clear "winglets" added to the front wing. Do they help?

To me adding extra down force on the front wing is a must for SS45 for over 60mph, without it, i cant keep it down to the water, its really help, i copied that from my master Jim Vaugh, his even has more down force than mine by bending it up, mine is just straight up and i added more weight to the noise.
