Hey Kevin just curious if you are still running the hull and how its going?Team Liquid DashComment

i love the boat, i got up to 72-74mph with Prather s235 and very stable, the thing is, lipos and speed control is got a lil warm with that prop (lipos was 135-145, Schulze 40160 got 140-150 degrees) after 2.5 mins of sport run, 6 nitro laps is just fine, everything just stay under 130 degrees.Comment

Yeah I figured with that motor and the right prop that it would be awesome. I am thinking about swapping out my 1527 1.5d for the 2215. I would love to get 3-4 min run time in the mid 60's. According to the specs on this site it looks like the 2215 is only a couple ounces heavier than my 1527 so it won't kill my CG. I just have to see how different the mounting holes are between the two.Team Liquid DashComment

With that motor you can swing more aggressive props, just not too good for sport run over 2 mins, specially at small pond, its heat up esc caps real fast since we can't open full throttle and back and forward throttle all the time, even my 10g wire getting up to 140 degrees, i thought about changin to plugs to 8mm to see if its will help.

Have you tried a 447 prop or a 450 prop? That is what I am running in my PT45 and I get some good speed but run time is low. I am hoping that moving to the 2215 with the same prop will douple my run time at least. I have a pretty large pond in my back yard so I will be able to run wide open without a problem. I have run my gas riggers over 70mph in that pond.Team Liquid DashComment

if im not mistaking, you are running 1527 1.5d, 1500kv? if so, you will have shorter running time with 2215 EVEN with same props, and i dont think the speed is beter than your motor right now since the kv is lower a lil (1500 vs 1440), but the motor will be much cooler with 2215 for sure, that motor is love bigger props, maybe you want to try Prather 225 or 230

I tried x447 and its around 60mph and everything is just really cool, i never try x450.

what is your esc Raydee? i dont even trust this setup with my HV 240, if you just ran 1.5 mins only then the 2215 can handle any props and you will have 75mph.Comment

I am running the HV180 in my boat, it hasn't been over 130 degree's yet.Team Liquid DashComment

Oh Raydee, here the video of my 2nd run with x455 at HOTMBC club, btw, i think you will burn up a HV180 with 2215 1y on 6s.

What mah batteries are you guys running? Must be 5000 or close in 2p config... Ever thought to go up to 10s or more with a lower kv motor? Higher voltage means less amp draw, and less draw is easier on the batteries. Less amp draw means less voltage drop, less voltage drop means less heat.
I an not really familiar with these big power boat setups, but I do know that going to 10s+ will give you a little bump in runtimes even with the same cells. Not a huge difference, but the heat in the system will be reduced, and your "out of the hole power" will increase as well due to the reduced voltage drop.
I am guessing finding a decent controller capable of handling 10-12s in a boat like this is difficult, and pricey. I just know this from running hv in Monster Trucks, and 1/5 scale vehicles.
I can only imagine what will be experienced when people start swapping over to the TP 40c cells or the Hyperion G3 35c series. Us car guys have seen remarkable results with these lipos, voltage drop is much less than the 25-30c enerland cells that were the previous top dogs."These rocky mountains aren't very rocky!" "Yeah, that John Denver is full of S**t!"Comment

Kevin,
We ran Gilberts SS45 last Sunday with a X450/3,, ran nice and stable and GPS came in at 61mph.. The temps were a little high,, esc came in at 140 deg. the motor was 125 deg. and the lipos 130-135 deg...
Basically the same set up as yours,, 2215/1Y with 40/160 esc and 2x 4500mah 30C Flightpower lipos... We are going to try some more props this weekend..
What props have you tried so far??
I have found the x447/3 works very well on my Whiplash 40 Q-hydro.. But I am running the 1527/1.5D and diff. hull design than you and Gilbert.... I am getting 60-62mph and no heat problems at all after 7 laps on the big race course...Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!Comment
