    G'day all

    Hey there guys,

OK i'm new to this site, and to rc boats. My names Mike, and i'm from Perth, in West Australia. Last week I ordered 2 mini v's to run here at champion lakes:

Which is an awesome place to have literally 10mins away. There is always somewhere out of the wind and chop!

So i've been running these boats hard with a few mates, and they seem to be great! I've got another 2 mini cats on order, so we can get 4 running at once.

So right now i'm looking to upgrade my fleet, more so for something that I can run alone, the mini v's are more of a pack racing/thrasher type boat as stockers, although I have one designated for brushless etc.

Being new to boats and not knowing a transom from a stringer, RTR seems to be drawing me, especially to either a supervee27 brushless or blackjack 26 brushless. I'm looking for a boat with some quality to it, where after hours of use there will be no problems.
(the mini v's are showing signs of abuse after not so hard running, such as the prop wont spin in reverse while turning and one has severe loss of power)

With the use of lipos, I notice that neither of these boats have low voltage cutoff, So I'd need a cutoff switch. Are there any boats that come with low voltage protection?

anyways, this looks like a great forum with lots of good info, so i'm off for a read! See you out there!

    Mike

Welcome! the location looks awesome!!! You are a lucky boater...
judging by your needs, a BJ26 would be a good deal outta the box,
it's a good step up from the minis you are running and with lots of
upgrades possible, you won't get sick of it in a few weeks... BTW, it comes with
    a lipo cutoff ESC.
If you are a Hydro man, there is the UL-1... very nice RTR boat... also workable
so you will not get sick of it.

Who is going the the Perth SAW's next season ??

Mike, welcome to a world of info about model boats.
There are a few skippy chasers here as well.
Jan (Ub hauled) is a very clever bugger and one is well advised to listen to him, I don't anymore because I know more than him.
A BJ 26 will be a bloody hoot on that piece of water.

although a 4S rigger would be a real blast at a hundy

Good to see another Aussie to help keep the wooly wankers and yanks at bay! How much do you want to spend? The rtr boats are ok but a purpose built race boat is what that lake needs.

I was thinkn around 500, i've seen the supervee27's for around 480 which isnt too bad. I just want something fast, reliable and easy to get parts for. I've just got back from the lake with the mini v's and ones dead after just a few runs. I think the motor is toast

It is always about those damm sheep i'nit Andy. How many time do i have to tell you that goats are so much.......

Mike, you will have to not only excuse certain members of this forum (me included) but you will deffo have to get used to it. Unless Steven gives us Southern Latitude types a proper bollocking.

Back to the task at hand.
RTR boats are a pile of fun out of the box. You will soon need to replace parts and then want to upgrade, go faster upgrade ,go faster upgrade etc.
            This is a viable option.

Another option seeing as you already have a couple of boats is to drive those ones to death and go for something a little bigger.
26" minimum and up to 33" for a first bigger build.

I can sugest that you go for a Mono or Cat for now and then hit the hydro scene later. Once the speed bug is well under your skin then go for a rigger.
That piece of water that you have there is begging for a saw rigger.

Andym (despite being one of the rudest sh1ts on earth) is local to you and somewhat clever. Trust me, he IS the Aussie to talk to about boats.
There are others and as you read here you will find them, if not give Andy or me a shout and we will help.

Rude WTF are you on about, I was about to offer a Whiplash 20 ARTR for the young fellow, but 60+mph and razor handling from one of these is probably not the thing just yet.

Simon, I so envy you right now!
I wish I could be at Perth as well, it looks like a PERFECT SAW site...
                =\
Mike, if you are going to race in SAW or regular races, it may be a good idea
to check the local rules out, that way you can narrow down the size/type/power
of the boat you want. Just something to keep in mind.
Jan (Ub hauled) is a very clever bugger and one is well advised to listen to him...
Simon, that joke will keep me laughing all nite long, heheheheh.

Mike, we like to joke around, I hope you can handle the dark sarcastic humor that rolls around these parts...

sarcasim is good, except my missus never gets it lol
I wouldnt have a clue about boat racing SAW?!!?(usually race 1.10 elec tourers), I looked this morning online but couldnt find anywhere, except sailboats....
The minis are pretty trashy, well mine is its been hammered, didnt like the stick pack lipo I tried to fit :)
But anyway, I really want something with some speed and a bit more reliable than the mini v. its like a matchbox boat.

Jan. I am in Auckland. That is a 8-10hr flight to Perth and Mikes pond.... tempting though.
Andy. This offer, is it free ???

Mike. Good to see that you can laugh.
SAW is straightaway, kind of like a drag boat but with a running start.
They usually have a 100m course, you fly in, run the 100, then turn back in on the fly for another 100 the other way then that is it. A famous boater, Jay Turner, once said that a boat is not fast untill it has done the 100m..... TWICE.

The average time from the two passes is the time recorded.
Sounds kind of easy but at over 160km/h it has some spectacular crashes.
That is the very basics of saw boats for now, and it is something that I am only beginning to dabble in.

That sounds pretty intense... I might put the word out to start something like this up, its a great venue for it.

So tempted to get a BJ26, found one goin 400 posted. I'll give the shop a call on monday!

This weekend weve had milk bottles with fishing sinkers tied on the ends floating around to make a course. Wasnt the most exciting as mini v warp is about walking pace haha

A goat weekend! Like a sort of extended kiwi bucks night? they get all fun over there..

i'm looking at the BJ 26 Brushless, being a cat would be more stable and seems like a good entry level craft with some good support behind it.

The shop i'm calling tomorrow is fast electrics. www.fastelectrics.com Really only as they are aussie owned, and also cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. If you know of anywhere else let me know and i'll check em out
