Forgive my ignorance about the exact specifics of the Namba rules (im from the UK)

Would something like my AS race boats sport hydro fit into any classes? the hull is about 42" and full carbon layup

I am moving to the USA in the next 12 months and curious if it would fit in anywhere? from looking at the whiplash P sport, my hydro is a little wider for the length. (it will turn hard over in current 65mph setup) I did have it at 80+mph for 3.5 min run time but backed it down a little.

        Thanks.

Just for clarification - in the UK we don't have an oval class for racing this.

It's a fun boat to run I did run it at the SAW's (didn't even take the turn fin off) and got 79mph out of her in the oval setup, have gone up to a 1/4" drive now for some bigger props but the new shaft didn't play well with the old collet and I'll have to sort something out when im back in the summer.

I dont know of any electric boat that can run 3.5 minutes at 80mph. That takes at least 350 amps in a 34" hydro to do that. which would require like 30,000mah. run times are about 30-40 seconds at that amp draw.

42" hull would be 8s with speeds in the mid to high 50's for about 90 seconds or 6 laps. which is 1 mile.

            Hi, it's a 10s boat.

And for clarification - that's not 85mph average maybe that's what you think I mean? (like stated im from the UK and don't race to your set of rules)

The boat will run 80mph on the straights, slowing for the turns and run 3.5 mins...

These are our European oval race boats, this is a Hydro 2 (fastest class) race is 6 mins long and we are limited to 120 watt/hr to complete this

gotcha. yes there's a major divide between sport boating and racing in terminology and stuff. runtime has to be measured at full throttle otherwise we have no idea what it even means. 10% throttle average? who knows.

                Indeed,

these hydro 2 wraceboats are probably the closest thing to racing terminology.
I can get 6 mins oval racing out of this.

There's at least one I know of on HOTMBC on Facebook (Katy, TX club), Jim Stevens who has run Phil Thomas for quite some time. Might want to check with him.

Just finished the P sport 34 and as I said before a ton of work but it looks great. As for the Phil Thomas hull I'm building now I have to say how bad the mold and glass work is on this sport 20.

I've built several Phil Thomas boats. They are definitely NOT pieces of crap. They are epoxy glass hulls and require pin hole filling and significant finishing. I personally built a lot of epoxy glass Leecraft tunnels. That construction method is the strongest way to build model race boats. You can eliminate some of the finishing problems By spraying an epoxy undercoat on the mold before the layup, but you will never get the finish of a gel coat. Those beautiful gel coated polyester boats won't look so nice if you bump something. An epoxy glass boat will only get paint scratches.

The Leecraft tunnel I built over 20 years ago has won or placed in several NAMBA Nationals. It's run 3,5 Mod, 7.5 cc stock and mod, and 11 cc stock and mod motors. Now it runs a TenShock motor and won P limited tunnel at the NAMBA Nationals last year. It's a little battle scarred.and shortened for the P limited rules. We'll see how it runs this year.
