    Important Questions

    Hi guys,

I'm new to RC boating (raced all sorts of land models for years though). I'm building a 39" Fibreglass and Wooden boat for a D&T project that I intend on using for fun and races against my friends on the very calm school lake (huge).

I've been looking at Neu motors for a while now and after several emails I've decided on the 1521/1Y with 5mm shaft. This is where I get stuck, since I have little knowledge of the terms used with boats. If I use a 5mm coupler with this motor to a .150 cable with this hardware (comes with .150 octura cable, .150 teflon tubing) what do I attach it to; the cable or teflon?

It comes with stuffing tube and steering hardware too, so all I will need is the prop and linkages, also some tubing for water cooling. Neu suggest an Octura x447/3 prop for my boat. What do you think?

Just want to make the correct choices, since I live in the UK its a pain in the ass to buy from the US and find you've made a stupid mistake.

    Thanks, Jacob

With a 1521 I would suggest a .187 cable. I would also get the 8mm shaft for the neu motor.

I would also suggest a longer rudder, like the speedmaster 21 rudder.

The teflon goes into the a brass tube. The cable rides inside the teflon.

      So you would need

      Motor-
      Coupler-
      Cable and teflon.
Brass tubing for that will fit (9/32 for .187 cable)

Speedmaster stinger and speedmaster 21 mono rudder.

Thanks Steven and Jim. I did actually send you an email Steven, I got a good reply but I accidently deleted it, hence my post here.

I'll make a list up of what parts I think I need and post them up when I'm done just to be sure its right.

CC Hydra ESC (not sure 120A or 240A)
          Neu 1521/1Y 1577KV 8mm Shaft
OSE 8mm Straight Couplers for .187 cable
Hughey .187 Assembled Cable for 3/16" Propellers
Teflon Liner for .187 flex cable
9/32 brass for Octura .187 Teflon tubing
Speedmaster Stinger Strut for 3/16" prop
Speedmaster 21 Rudder 5.25" Long Mono Rudder
          Octura x447 Prop 3/16"

All from OFSE site, will I need anything else? I'm not sure if I need a prop nut. I have no boating hardware, but I'll make the motor mount myself as its cheaper and can be made to fit my hull.

I have 2 SMC 5000Mah 28C 2S lipos, but I'd have to run them in parallel to get anything near to what I need to run this. I've heard that the NeuPower 4S Lipos will be up to the job..

            The list looks good.

However, you'll want to run these packs in a series to get 4s or 14.8v.
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

Alright, I'll be placing an order very very soon On the matter of servo's, what one would you suggest? I have to parts for a linkage so I just need the servo. I have a few spare 1/10 car servos at home, but I doubt they will have enough torque for the job.

Ok, I can get one of them locally so that's no problem. Hopefully I'll be able to get some build pics up within the next week, they are on my teacher's camera.

I'd choose the hydra 240 it will handle 4s no problem..

Cheers Heath and Douggie, I'll take a look at both in the morning. I'm popping into school to see how much room I'll have in the hull.

4S lipo and a Neu 1521 for a 39" hull??? Guy's is there something I am missing here??
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
