Looks like good fodder for an article, Jay. "When to stop trying to balance your prop"

It's like the guy who designs a circuit for a 3.300K ohm resistor, or who designs a laser cut wood part to .001" fit.

        The Jet method:

        1. Measure with a micrometer.
        2. Mark with chalk.
        3. Cut with an axe.

        or

        1. Bash to fit.
        2. Paint to cover.

          HA!

Those gaps in the model are for "expansion."
All those tic marks between the numbers on the ruler are for show.

Jay, Brian, Darin, Gerwin and many others. This is a very interesting thread that has strayed to prop design, final finish, and manipulation with pliers
How does Brian ( The Snowman ) get the best out of a prop with no computer models, I presume, of how to bend and manipulate a prop to some of the stunning achievements he obtains???
The engineering factor with Brian seems to go out the window....just knowledge.

Combined, its more intuition than most of us have patience for! LOL

Brian? Have you done anything with counter-rotating props on the same outer shaft? => meaning, have you worked any with two counter-rotating props with an inner and outer drive system? Does that make sense?

And if so, what general ideas do you have on pitch with a setup like that?

Some of the best props in my box are ones that I ruined for one application, then decided to just go nuts on and try some things and they worked EXCELLENT for another...

There is a good reason why most good racers have BIG prop boxes full of props, most of which they never use...

and also why when someone askes for a prop recommendation all most can give is just a general answer. The correct answer is almost always "It depends..."

As, I always thought it is the prop and the driveline that is the key to a finely tuned boat. Apart from the strut and other mechanical devices

I received my Kintec balancer today and I checked all my props with it. Not one of them was "Perfect". As a matter of fact the ones off balance the most were bought balanced and sharpened (I guess I should have checked them before). Very nice piece of equipment at a great price.

Chuck, that states volumes. I await my Kintec and I know that some members say it it does not make a difference, but to me it is the difference in my MIND.

I also received my balancer today. This is one 1rst quality piece. Do not discard the protective rubber coating for the balance shaft ends...it slips on and off very easily.
