Hi all, was wondering what people opinions are on graphene batteries. Are they much better than regular lipos? Last longer? Better power output? Any info is appreciated, need to pick up a couple new batteries.
Graphene vs lipo

Personally, I can't say whether they have "better" power output...I don't have equipment for testing that...but, they do have "higher"power output. Standard LiPos charge to 4.2V/cell, whereas LiPo Have charge to 4.35V/cell.
Of course, that's only if you have a charger with a LiPo HV setting, and actually use that setting. If you're charging them on a non-HV capable charger, or if you charge them as a standard LiPo on an HV-capable charger, they'll only charge to 4.2V/cell, thus you end up 'wasting' that additional power capability...however, by doing so, you could extend the overall life of the battery. I have no personal data to back this up...but, based on testing by others, it does appear to hold true.
As for the rest of what you asked, hopefully others will chime in.

Based on my understanding of graphene molecular technology, I think the term, when used with Lipo batteries, is mostly marketing. However, most graphene series lipos perform quite well as they tend to be the top tier offering from the manufacturer. I've had excellent results with both generations of the Turnigy graphene packs, the original 65C and the newer panther 75C. They take more abuse, balance out consistently, and have always tested well in abusive independent battery tests. China Hobby graphene packs also test very well and are assumed to be the same cells as the panther based on testing results, but are sold at a lower price point.
Graphene vs. non-graphene has nothing to do with standard Lipo vs LiHV (4.35V) packs. Revolectrix was one of the last high C rating HV lipo producer and they've recently closed up shop. Very few in the FE hobby run LiHV packs.Last edited by fweasel; 09-02-2021, 07:00 PM.Vac-U-Tug Jr (13mph)Comment

Think of Graphene more as the top trim level for a particular brand. The graphene version is likely a better performer in most categories than the non graphene version from the same manufacturer. It's a little more difficult to compare batteries between manufacturers, and best to rely on independent test results.Vac-U-Tug Jr (13mph)Comment

Unfortunately, nowadays, the term 'Graphene' is more marketing than anything else. That was different several years back, where some had better performance over standard lipos.
A good read up in general about true performance is below. Feel free to read through all of it or stick with the first page and get an idea of 'real C, all lipos are in the 30-35C range regardless of advertised values with few top performers.
You do NOT need the top performers though for general stuff. Use it as a guide to pick the cheapest or compare prices to real performance.
