    Veneer on birch skins?

This will be my first attempt with wood veneer so any input or experience is more than welcomed.

The steps I?ve planned out unless anyone has different suggestions:
    1) West systems slow-cure thinned for sealing the birch.
    2) While wet, lay down veneer on birch skins, clamp, let dry.
    3) Then seal veneer, let dry.
    4) Shape skins, clamp to sponsons, trim veneer and birch skins.

Does this sound right? Should I build the boat then add the veneer then seal?

The veneer is rainbow poplar. It?ll get sealed, then 4-5 cotes of clear.

    Thanks doodes!32FCD444-F7FA-4D66-BD5F-AF74FEBD5829.jpg97BF1432-152E-4F6B-8AC2-DA27FA5CEF99.jpg

I thought we'd hear from somebody by now. I've skinned a lot of boats in my life, but never veneer, but your method sounds reasonable to me. Probably how I would do it.

The only “veneer” I’ve done is 1/64” ply on 1/8” balsa.. so gotta say, Jarrett I’m not sure what you are up to..

They turned out ok. One more seal coat should do the trick.

I did this with Lacewood. I should have done it the way you did. I adhered after building. Lacewood is super fragile. Such a pain in the a$$.

I had a few areas lift on the right sponson so I used thinned down G flex for the left sponson, instead of the WS 206, and it turned out damn-near perfect.

I haven’t seen lacewood. I’ll check it out. My 8th scale will get curled maple dyed to look like an old fender “flame” Stratocaster.
