When I oval raced mine I used a Neu 1527/1Y on 6S spinning a pitched-up x455 or ABC 2116/17* for speeds in the low/mid 60s. That was plenty fast to win heats in rough race water.

The motor is of relatively low Kv, and the prop was run high with the centerline about 1/2” above the bottom of the sponsons. It’s possible to use a higher Kv motor and smaller prop, but most of us found this setup preferable for heat racing.
