What is your favorite brand of Rattle can paint?

ON finishing your boats what brand of rattle can primer and paint do you use? what clear coat? For Glass? For ABS?

    How has it held up?

I've had good luck using Krylon for a base coat, then Duplicolor Clear Top Coat (Glossy) over it and any decals...

I'm starting to lean more toward Duplicolor paints in general... they lay down pretty nicely for bomb-can paint...

The Clear Top-Coat is the BOMB! Makes for a very glossy and durable finish it it's all applied correctly...

I have had good results with Krylon paints. The thing I have yet to master is surface prep. I peeled the hatch tape off of an impropperly painted hull once and all the paint came off like a rag. I'm using polyurethane as a sealer and I need to remember to leave the surface a little rough for the color coats to stick.

As I said before, I've used Krylon (Standard Krylon, NOT Fusion...) on all my boats, and it works fine...

Where I have had issues with it is when I've wanted to go back later and sand on it, perhaps to do a repair... It's not always "sanding" friendly... After a LONG, LONG time on the boat, it sands fine... but if you have to go back a month or two later, it just doesn't seem to be REALLY hard... even though it's a Laquer based paint...

The Duplicolor paint I used for the White on the Oberto repair, seemed to dry very hard and was able to be lightly sanded fairly quickly... It doesn't cover quite as well, so it takes more coats, but ultimately I think a few light coats are better anyhow...

In either case... both of these paints result in excellent paint jobs for Rattle-can applications... ESPECIALLY when cleared with the Clear Top-Coat from Duplicolor... It's MUCH glossier than the equivalent Krylons (Crystal Clear)... Makes the paint-job POP!

For spray bombs I like duplicolor as well. The fan pattern is much better than the round when trying to get a good even coat.

I'm happy with the Valspar from Lowes
I used it on my micro gator and manx
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

Yep, if I sand the hull all over with a fresh piece of 220 the paint stays on.

Went to town today, the only clear coat I could find at the 2 stores that carry paint is Krylon acrylic clear? Is that what you all use over the regular Krylon paint?

For you guys that want an easy way to paint your hulls without priming or getting a krinkle paint job from the clearcote. Use Rustoleum "Paint for plastic" and "Polyurethane gloss". Works great on fiberglass. I only have one coat of clearcote at this time. I will add more after the stickers are on for a slick finish.

I am not much for painting, so I found the easy way. You do not need to sand the surface. Only clean the surface with paint thinner, then just paint it.

I use for my boats Dupli-Color and Motip but i never clean the surface with Thinner but wash my boats with a soap and ammonia because the Thinner leaves a oily base behind . Before i put the clearcoat on i sand it wet with p1200 .

How long do I have to wait to tape it off and apply a second color?? Is 24 hrs enough?

Every paint is different. I would wait 7 days to be safe, if you can not apply another colour within 1 hour. The tape is your possible problem. Check the manufacturers recommendations
