    I try to layout my paint schemes so the colors do not need to overlap and then tape off all the hull and remove only the tape for one color at a time. Sometimes thats not possible

      Krylon is enamel and DUlicolor is Laquer. I ampretty sureof this.

      Laquer will be a better paint....much closer to an automotive paint...which it basically is. Dries faster and harder, less chance of runs and all that.

      Do not wait too long to peel your tape...that is a problem. In the auto world we would pull tape as soon as we could.

          paint

          Hey Jeff;
          Krylon Crystal Clear is Lacquer and if put on wet will lift most paint, wrinkling and ruining it. The Duplicolor is much safer as a clear coat.

          Hey focused:
          You are right about paint thinner wipe it down with a rag dampened in Lacquer thinner or prepsol. Just damp to take off the dust, not wet..But sanding with 400 will give you a much better finish than 220.
          I gave up and am using Sherwin williams automotive paints, they dry fast and hard and very glossy, they are also very expensive and require a thinner and hardner from the same "system".
          I just found AutoAirColors. These are automotive quality paints, the deal is they are waterbased. Work great in an air brush and clean up easily. not very expensive.
          The hitch is they need to be clear coated to last.
          Good Luck;

            I know this is a Rattle can thread but if any of you guys have ever used Klass Kote paint you will never look back. Its 2 part but the catalyst is also a clear coat and the color coat dries shiny just like clear. If you let it sit 5-7 days it dries hard as a rock too. Its a little more difficult to spray over a rattle can setup but much easier than a 2 part base and clear job. It sprays real nice and can be thinned with straight laquer. You mix it one part base, one part catalyst and one part laquer so for every once of paint you actually end up with 3 ounces. I also used Krylon Clear over it when I repainted my windshields and there was no reaction.

              Duplicolor & Krylon. Duplicolor has alot more color options ( at least here) and I agree their clear is great although I havent tried it with Krylon. For any plastic, Krylon Fusion along with their clear is very durable , again, limited color options.

                Duplicolor and Krylon both stick well on gelcoat as long as you use their primer and rough the surface with 800 - 1000 grit.

                    Na, I use a good old 20oz. Gravity fed HVLP gun to shoot my hulls. I personally HATE painting but it needs to be done so I do it.
