Guys, this is what is left from an attempt to check if a prop is balanced on a Dremel...
yes... I went there... don't try this at home.
I placed the prop on the shaft, the shaft on the Dremel (perfect fit BTW), and went to
town on the "throttle"... there was a slight vibration on the beginning and it got
worst, and worst, and worst... then the prop SHOT out of the shaft and into my back yard
somewhere (lost) after ricocheting of a tree branch... all I heard was "kahpeeng", kling, kling... and no more prop. It gets worst
Thinking this would not be a big deal I had no safety precautions nor gear, I could have had some serious "prop in the eye problem"... seriously, avoid this silly attempt to check if the prop is balanced, find a safer way... I know I will, don't wanna lose another prop (or an eye).

I am pleased you were not hurt. Maybe we could add a "Things not to do" section to the computer program Jan.
Good luck at your SAW event this weekend.

That prop must have been a fair way out of balance to do that

UB, thank you for your honesty in relating your error.....many others would not. The dremel fixing method and trueness I would not trust as it would increase any out of balance problems.
              Glad you are OK

Now that we know you are not hurt, is it wrong to giggle......just a little.....on the inside?

Bad part is I thought about doing that too.

Oh, I am laughing at it, that's all I can do, right?!

Sterlo, I think the prop was very close to being in balance, I think the problem
started with the 2 little cones (plastic) that probably were not balanced well and then
they un-lodged from the prop and then the prop got outta axis... that's when things went array... quick.

                    Luckily everything turned out great!

When I was new at repairing jewelry, I did a similar thing. Someone had us repair a ring that had a top design that spun on a set of micro bearings. I was using a high pressure steam machine to remove the dirt and the top was spinning rather quickly and sounded cool(I can still hear it today, sounded like a jet winding up!). So I tried it a few more times, UNTIL I hit the rpm limit for the bearings. The ring blew apart with the bearings and ended up all over the place. LOL Needless to say my father was a tad bit upset with me.

You guys have to agree that it was a good idea on paper... high RPM... a balanced prop...
a shaft that fits perfectly... the cones that are off balance plastic... oh wait, that is the mistake.

Might work with the proper size drill rod, prop dog, and collar.

                          LOL.

It always makes me smile that first we have to balance the balancer before we balance a prop. What ever happened to quality control? Maybe they could make a RTU (ready to use) balancer. I would not mind paying a little extra for that.

Chuck, now he needs a prop dog to go find the missing prop.
I guess only Andym will get that joke.
