Hi all recently upgraded the JAE .21 with a 2200 kv motor with speeds approaching the 60 mph mark im observing the rigger is starting to pull to the right on the straights the rudder is set straight and the stock turn fin is mounted as per instruction book.Im considering shimming the turn fin using # 4 ss washers to pull to the left . Should a properly set up outrigger not pull slightly to the left while running down the straight aways with all steering corrections to be made turning the right ? What else can i do to remedy this situation ? Regards Andris Golts.

also with the stock turn fin you can either raise or lower the front of fin to correct any left or right pull., the right sponson needs about 1/16 inch of tow in to correct pulling to the right at speed. your adding more rpms to the prop so as mentioned make sure the prop is quite sharp and not to large in diameter . what size prop are you running now ?Last edited by rol243; 07-05-2017, 02:10 AM.Comment

All the above suggestions might work, but in reality most hydros will pull to the right (not left) without some left rudder trim. This is due to prop walk along with drag from the turn fin. Mine uses about 1/16" of left deflection at the rudder trailing edge to run straight in the upper 70s.

Andris,
Despite that problem, it's good to see the kind of speed you are getting. I have a 2200 kv motor for that boat, just waiting for a chance to install it. I only have the 1450 mod props. Is that what you are using? Any other modification beyond S&B?Comment

Any bias on the rudder will create drag and slow you down.
I run a 21 in the mid-70's on 5S.
You just need a little toe-in and perhaps a better (custom) turn fin...the stock one isn't very good.Comment

Hi all did more fine tuning on the JAE .21 i made a 1/16'' toe in adjustment on starboard sponson checked the port sponson for paralell to tub discovered bow end was out by 1/64'' corrected that situation filed a razor edge on the turn fin although the aluminum material seemed a bit soft for my like ing re-balaned and re-sharpened all props i plan on using on the rigger. Went out tonight for testing and noticed a huge improvement in handling not pulling to the right nearly as much i still may try moving the port sponson 1'' closer to the tub. Once again a big thankyou from everyones suggestions . Regards Andris Golts.Comment

you should be able to leave the sponsons set at there original spacings, just add the tow in to the starboard sponson front plus keep the turn fins top level with the top of tub [ horizontal ] hey whats your full power and prop set up now Andris ?Comment

Andris, do you know what speeds you are getting now?Comment

just be carefull not to over prop as this will heat electronics and battery packs up quick. i prefere a smaller prop for oval race and naturally a larger prop for s.a.w. just been playing with a slightly moded H4 prop for oval and results are quite good compared to my previous H7 prop which did produce great speed but made things get hot rather quickly.Comment
