today I received my order from OSE I now have a 3/16 flex shaft and strut setup I got all of the connectors and batteries soldering done. I have most of tomorrow to work on the boat so this might hit the water on Sunday IF the rain holds off...

Small glitch I have run into today, the strut is supposed to take a 1/4" tubing, I can't seem to get my tube to fit without driving it in. The original 7mm tube slides in easily, I would rather have the tight fit brass tube I bought. any ideas?
I solved this problem by drilling out the strut I check the thickness with com dial indicators and had enough metal to just drill it out and inset the tubing for the flex drive

I splashed the Genesis today and got 1 run on her. I upgraded the flex drive to .187 cable and shaft, increased the water tubing size and ran a m-445 prop, on the stock motor and 4s lipo setup. the boat ran like a scared rabbit but The short time of the batteries is a big disappointment. I have been running gas cat boats since 2005 so a 10 minute run was a short test run... other than the run time I like this boat hull it twists a lot when you hammer the power but if you can ease it up its very quick... I want to thank you guys for helping me with the setup so it was a good run... I will run again the sunday and lets hope for the best...

Lipo brushless setups are not for long runs, especially compared to gas. If you want to run a long time especially in a oval, then gas is the way to go.

Brushless is if you want speed for less $$$ and ability to "freestyle" your runs since you don't have the limitations gas motors have regarding not being able to idle in position, unless you have a clutch that is.

We run with gas guys all the time, I rarely see them go beyond 5 minutes a run however. You can run additional batteries in parallel to increase your run-times if you want.

My fastest Genesis does about 73 mph on 6S with a SSS 4082 2000kv motor and 180a ESC with a M445 prop. However, that is a SAW setup, essentially doing drag style laps back and forth. I get about 12 laps at our pond with 5,000mAh batteries, or about 2 minutes of constant full throttle running. On 4S with a sporting setup, running in parallel, I can probably get about 7-8 minutes. However speeds will be down to the low 50s.

If you want some longer run times SPC has some nice 8200mah 2s packs. I have their 7200mah 3s packs and get about 10 minutes on 6s in my 32" rivercat

Anybody run the offset bracket on their rudder? I have been thinking about getting one so pulling the flex shaft is easier after a day at the pond

I had one, but it slowed the boat down about 4-5 mph. Since its a SAW boat, I removed it.

To change your flexshaft, the center rudder position isn't that much more effort. Just one allen key bolt on the bottom of the rudder you need to remove to flip your rudder up and remove your flexshaft pretty quick.

Also, having the rudder just behind the prop has saved my prop a couple of times when either my flexshaft broke or came loose during a run.

I was watching another genesis running a few weeks ago and it had a lot of spray behind it and he had the offset bracket on it... I figured he was losing some speed with the offset bracket but was looking for some hard facts. I don't mind flipping the rudder to pull the shaft, but on my gas boats the rudder is offset from the transom not the strut bracket and that works well ... Thanks for your reply....

Yup, using that offset bracket on a center mount is a compromise system, it does improve the handling of the boat, but adds drag compared to a proper offset mount.

The Genesis is a rather narrow hull, a proper offset mount would be difficult.

I did a couple modifications to the boat this wee and I'm very happy with the outcome. The Pockets under the boat where the upper hull extends beyond the lower hull, I blanked them off with some thin flexible plastic sheeting cut to size and glued in place then silicone the edges just to make sure no water would get trapped in. what a huge difference it makes in the boats handling. It doesn't pull the boat to the right with the torque so you can stay in the throttle.... I also cut the 445 prop down so the ears are gone and thinned sharpened and balanced the prop. this is pretty quick now on just a 4s setup and I have a couple more ideas to try out I think I might get into the 60 mph range if I keep working on this setup... Then I'll be looking for a motor to drop into her for a 3s setup...

well, it's time to up the game but i'm not an electrical kind of guy .... I need some motor ideas for the Genesis, I want to go to 6s and 8s packs I have a 180 seaking ESC . I have some batteries already so just need to upgrade the motor to get this boat to fly....

Seaking 180 will only run up to 6s

I told you I wasn't an electrical kind of guy..lol I take it 8s will put out more than 180A when wide open? I will still need a motor to handle both sizes when I upgrade the esc for 8s..
