It works I used the one you had on your Speedcraft mono on my Backlash and it really picked up a load of speed. Working on your old Speedcraft to convert it to FE it will have a TP5080 using 8s then 10s trying to beat Doug to 100 mph with a mono.

This on a record course using the timing lights not peak speed from a GPS or radar gun. Speed is measured over the 330 foot SAW and for a record it's over both ways.

Yes sir, I totally understand. I'd like to clear some things up. In no way am I attempting to take away anything from the gentleman that have gone to time trials and ran their boats through the traps and set a record or a mph.

Now. Here's my take on a gps. It's a tool I (and others too) use to measure the speeds of their boats. They have proven to be extremely accurate. That does not mean that I post 100 on my god that I will post 100 both ways through the traps. Chances of that are slim to none especially since I have no practice or experience running my boat through the traps......which most people don't realize, it you don't travel straight as possible from start to end, you'll post a lower speed because of longer distance traveled. It takes skill and practice and a straight running boat to do this as perfect as possible. Does that mean that just because I post 90 through the traps that I have a 90mph boat? No. It doesn't. It just means that I lacked the skills to get a good start and run straight and clean enough to post a higher speed. A gps will accurately tell you your top speed no matter how straight your going, whether your going at a diagonal direction or whatever. It's a great timing tool and in us gps racers eyes, a good bragging rights tool.....but like I said......it's not meant to take anything away from any one holding any records. Just in good fun and in my case my own satisfaction. :)

I for one have been and would be nervous as heck running at an event. At least the first time. New surroundings and and different line of sight just to mention a couple things. There are obstacles to overcome but I am sure much fun would be had! Just my 2cents

Travis you are correct that GPS units and even radars are great tuning tools to obtain maximum performance from model boats. Have fun is the name of the game.

I agree. I have a plan though. I may be way off here but what I had planned is to maximize what I have now. Get it to 105-107ish and then back down on prop as low as I can go. Even with the lowest pitch prop I have it would run mid to high 90's and be super stable and not running on the ragged edge allowing me to easier make a clean couple passes. I'm not doing any trickery to this thing before I run it either. No heating of lipos or anything. Basically I'm pulling the boat off my shelf. Grease shaft. Put charged batts in and run it. I honestly thought it was gonna blow off the water but it didn't.

I pulled the data logs last night. Something wasn't quite right. I don't remember if I cleared out my last logs but they were still there. And it didn't over write what was already there. Like it filled up 30+ total minutes of logging and didn't log anymore. There was also a serious glitch session. Had multiple straight lines from top to bottom reading motor start failure and rpm readings of 83,000 lol. I did have an issue a while back of a desoldered joint and the motor was cogging. That was likely the session. I put 8mm bullets on the motor and never saw the issue again.

Just to give an idea of rpm tho, on 3s at 80+ I was turning a max of 29k rpm. Pretty tame. Lol

Thanks man. Sometimes it helps to know that I don't do all this stuff just for myself....that I help to benefit others. Gets a little discouraging sometimes when I post nothing and get no feedback from anyone on it. Feels like I'm talking to myself lol.

Thanks for the kind words. I have a test I'm about to do on drag with water pickups. I read that sponson water pickups add drag (but how much and how much speed do you really lose?) and I want to test with my zelos with and without pickups. I figure I'll make a pass and baseline it. Speed it's always the exact same everyday so I won't use my last speed as a baseline...ill actually run it. Then using super thin clear packing tape, I'll tape over the pickup holes and repeat the run. That should shed some light on what is lost with two bottom sponson pickups.
