It's a 4-pole motor. It's a non hand-wound copy of the TP Power motor. I don't carry them (they were still shown on the site, but have since been removed). I ordered some at one point, but after asking the company whether the motor was a D or Y wind and getting the response "we don't know", I stopped selling them.
I'm not sure why you would have better luck with it than the Leopard. I wouldn't expect the Leopard to be a much more powerful motor, so I don't know how the SSS would effectively limit the current draw, but I guess if it works, it works.When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.

I typical can do 85+ mph SAW runs, bring the boat back in with motor & ESC temps below 100F, batteries are barely warm!!! This is with 47mm props no less.
The motor has allowed myself and my boating group to gain speed and reliability at reduced cost. Because in order to make that next step in speed, either you up the kv or increase the voltage. Either way, you usually have to move up to a much more expensive Swordfish ESC. But with the SSS 4082 6-rotor motors, now we can run 2000kv on 6S and still use economical Seaking/Turnigy 180a ESCs. I could not do this same thing with a Leopard 4082 2000kv or TP 2050kv without using a much more expensive Swordfish ESC.
For my HPR, I was able to buy two SSS 4082 motors, and two Turnigy 180a ESCs for the same price of one Swordfish 240 pro. Is this a 90+ mph HPR? No, but its pretty darn close and at a substantial value difference.Last edited by SD Eracer; 01-09-2016, 12:11 AM.Comment

I have to say, I've been running SSS 4082 2000kv motors on Seaking 180a V3 ESCs on 6S, and its become my favorite motor. My HPR is not only my fastest boat, but my coolest temp boat. In fact, my stock Aquacraft 4S boats run hotter temps.

It states 6-rotor on the box, but that has some contention whether it was a typo for the 4082 2000kv motors. Here is a link on OSE (http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...cat=SSS+Motors), Steve revised them to 4-rotor on the description. Either way, still a great motor with low temps and easy on the 180a ESC. With 47mm props on the HPR, top speed was about 85 mph, depending on conditions. It dropped down to 78mph on 42mm props.
I'm currently running the 4074 2200kv SSS motors with my 180a ESCs. I run it on 45mm CNC props, about 7-10 mph faster than when I was running the 4082 2000kv SSS with 47mm Octura props. Temps are about the same, in the low 105 - 110F for the motors, about 125F on the ESC heatsinks, about 115 on the ESC base. Batteries rarely get about 115F after a hard run.
However, I would avoid the 4082 2200kv motor on 6S with a 180a ESC, you will need a Swordfish 240 to run it successfully on 6S. It will get you to the century mark with the right props.Comment

You are comparing apples to oranges here you say hpr with 4082 ss motor or motors? If it's a twin throw all the temp differences with you aquacraft out the window... I, and many folks have run Leopard 4082 2000kv or 2200kv, as well as neu 1521 motors on 6s in Twin format with t180's and yup x447 props and my mhz 114 had the exact setup actually D wind 2000kv 4082 leopards and came back with coooool Temps.... twin is hard to compare in any way with single motorized boats... they share the load and have 1/2 the amp draw of single motor boats with same setup.... compare two single powered boats and your findings may he totally differentLast edited by JMSCARD; 04-17-2016, 10:05 AM.Comment

Yes, you could run 2000kv Leopard 4082s with 180a ESCs with no problem, though temps were not as cool as we are seeing now on the SSS motors. My HPR hull is about 25% - 35% heavier than original due to heavy reinforcement and repairs over the years its been battered in the water.
As for single drive, a good example is my Genesis cat. I originally ran it on a Leopard 4092 1730kv with a 180a ESC on 6S. Though technically not a 6S motor, it still worked well for that. Steve from OSE uses it in that capacity on a River Cat I think. Temps are definitely pushed during hard SAW runs, it consistently got me 65mph on a M445 prop.
To get more speed, I switched to a Leopard 4082 2000kv, and it lasted about 3 laps before it blew the ESC. This was on a 42mm prop mind you. I recorded 71mph on the run before it fried the ESC. Luckily a few guys in my group were having great results with the SSS motor that I originally didn't care for. In particular, one members Ariane 2 37" mono. Its a high drag single drive boat, who had issues before pushing the limits. However, he found the SSS 4082 2000kv worked great and I decided to give it a shot.
With the SSS 4082 2000kv motor, it has been going strong for a while now on 45mm prop, the temps are even lower than my original 1730kv motor setup. Top speed is currently 73mph, temps are again barely above 110F for the motors, 127F for the ESC after a hard SAW run.
That is an apples to apples comparison between the exact same single drive hull comparing two different 4082 2000kv motors. The results were polar opposites and one of many similar in our group.
Trust me, we have a good sized boating group that is constantly pushing the edge of what we can do to go faster. There is no P-class heat racing here, its all about showing off in the water with faster and faster boats. The SSS motors have been a great benefit for those in our group who want for more speed for less money (i.e. using the 180a ESC).Last edited by SD Eracer; 04-17-2016, 12:03 PM.Comment
