Just ran my delta force knock off today with.. 8xl, 120amp HV Hydra, 6s 22.2 volts, 445 prop. Top speed 53mph. Tried it with two 2s batteries 14.4 volts and only did as well as 36.8. I am having trouble with the deans solder joints melting the plastic insulators off with this set up.

I really can't believe you didn't melt the ESC with that setup. Your amp draw must be very high. At the very least I would throw those Deans connectors in the trash and get some good Bullet connectors.

Holy crap- with an 8XL, 6S AND a 445, I don't want to know what your amp draw is. It's a wonder you didn't have a mushroom cloud over the lake !!!

Yes, I know I am pushing it. You want to hear something interesting. My brother ran his Triton (roughly 33" long) and ran a 6xl with 14.4 volts and clocked in around 47mph or so. I thought for sure it would just cavitate or blow the motor, but it held together and ran well.

The interesting thing is I had more troubles with the deans connectors getting hot and melting with the 14.4 volt set up than the 22.2 volt set up. The entire system ran better on the 22.2 volts set up. However, I think the motor will melt down if I run too long. I ran it about 2 or 3 minutes and the temps were up around 130 on the motor. The esc and the batteries were fine.

Maybe it is the quality of the Castle Hydra that is helping it all hold together? It is the High Voltage model and I have heard there has been some issues with the software it uses taking something off the top speed? Who knows, but I am having fun with it. The next goal is 60mph.

I need a good way to measure the amperage for over 120amps. Any suggestions?

I ran the boat today and got 55.4 mph! One of the solder joints failed on the deans connectors and that was the end of it for today. Hurricane IKE has my family and me on the Blanco river south of Austin waiting for the power to come back on in Houston. The plus side of this mini vacation is I can run the boat every day.

My brother got the run on video, but I am not sure if I have enough battery power to get it transfered to my PC and uploaded(The charger is back at my home). I will post it if I can.

That is a very unreliable combo you are trying to pull off there. Might works for a saws setup, but not for sport running.

I a running an 8XL in a 26" 4S cat and even that gets hotter than I'd like for sport running with an x445 on it!!

Yes, I know. I am just experimenting wth it. I think I am going to try and set it up as a high voltage boat with a suitable motor to see if I can get the kind of speed I am looking for without the heat. Right now I am not racing this boat, just going for bragging rights on the top end speed against my brother and brother-in-law. I am back home now, so I should be able to get the video upoladed in the next day or so.
