I've got the same motor.. on 1280kv you need to run 8s high discharge batteries.... 10 to 12 gage wire and you need a BIGGER ESC... like grsboats said SF240 or the SF300..

Big FE boats cost a lot and if you don't do it right it'll cost you a lot more... lol

ok so far I have to run 6s batteries with what I have at 1280kv
so can someone tell me what bat to buy part# would be very helpful
wire size anyone have any paperwork for anything thanks jim
Let me be frank with the OP. What kind of speeds are you expecting? Running 6S with relatively low Kv motors will really limit your top speeds. Depending on your goals, you are making a lot of compromises which will work against you. Why twins for a first boat? Why a huge unproven 50" rigger...arguably the most difficult type of boat for a beginner? Boats like this are tough for FE experts to make work. I have seen MANY beginning FE boaters make simple mistakes which cost hundreds of dollars - compounded with a big, expensive boat.

There is no "paperwork" for boats like this, very few folks build them - BTW I wrote the book on FE boats (one anyway). The fact that you know so little about FE is a warning NOT to build this boat until you have some experience with smaller, simpler boats. From the FE beginners who I have watched, you have a 90% chance of failure with the big rigger. Do yourself a favor and shelve it for awhile and get an RTR first. Learn, make the mandatory beginner mistakes, then go big and fast with the right equipment.

8mm connection on the motor to ESC. 6mm connection on the batteries. Again that motors kv is to low to run 6s...you need 8s and if you read the amp draw for the 1280kv configuration the 180 ESC is to small... and max MAH is 10000 in a race boat..

so there is no way to run that esc? I was at a hobbyshop Friday and 8mm bullet connecters would not work just a tad to largeand 6.5 were way to small, too wire the back of the motor, soo will a larger esc change the MAH or is that a standered, also the wire size should be larger as opposed to smaller 8 - 12 with a larger esc

MAH is just the compacity of the batteries.. more MAH the longer they will last... like we've been saying there is no standard when it comes to big FE boats.. only RTR.. I buy my own connectors and solder everything myself. I'd say no with that ESC. It'll run 6s and you need 8s or more. A larger ESC will provide you with the amp draw you'll need and you can run the voltage you need as well. Stick with 8 to 10 gage wire as well... just trying to help so you don't put it on the water and it last 10 sec and cost you hundreds of dollars.
