that's why you put a wheel collar on the shaft infront of the stuffing tube, but behind the coupler....
The problem there is that the wire usually breaks at the stub shaft or in the middle of the bend. Sometimes it will break at the coupler, but that is the only time a wheel collar will save you. Still not a bad idea.

I have had 2 wires break. Both were on the same hull that had a design flaw with the drive line. I have since told the designed what I think of him (me).
The wires broke just prior to the strut on my hrdro.

The issue I beleive is fixed but just in case I have put a small silicone collar over the stub shaft in front of the strut so that IF I get another wire failure then at least I get to keep the tail-shaft and prop, dog etc.

For a mono setup we often do not have the ability to protect the drive this far aft particularly with a stinger style setup, or home made ones like mine.
In my 700 powered mono the last chance to protect that wire is about 1"aft of the motor coupler.
I have yet to blow a wire on this hull. well that is tempting fate

IMHO Wire drives are very neat setups. Until convionced otherwise i will use wire and leave flex for my OB tunnel.
      See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

As I stated the bend is very small approx 4deg as the motor is very low in the hull, read touching bottom. I will try one as soon as Steve gets the couplers in. I might try in my Whiplash as well witch has a much longer stuffiffing tube but the bend is approx 6 deg but starts a long way from the strut. I am not to worried about loosing a prop as have started doing my own complete with detounging and cupping , they are coming out great and if you do not include the labour only $15.00 lost if a shaft breaks plus the shaft of coarse.
