I had one of these moments about 5 or 6 years ago... heres the thread lol

    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ng+a+dive+team

And a week before that I burnt up a Scorpion 4035/800 (back when they were big $$) and a HV Castle ESC along with 10s2p of new polyquest packs in a 2 minute stint in a big aeromarine cat (scorpion motor wires shorted out with heat).... and just a week after the scuba team I burnt up a 2280 Lehner along with a Castle Hydra hv240 in a 40" delta force copy mono.... so I've certainly been in the burning things down, and losing them rut lol..

Heck just yesterday I got my Aeromarine Avenger pro 44" cat all ready to go (My planned race boat)... brand new, BIG 58mm TP 680kv motor, and a FLier 300 amp esc.... started off on 8s with a prather 240... was fine and ice cold... went to 12s next run and propped down to a tiny x450 2 blade.... burnt up in in 20 seconds, hull was bone dry... no smoke... just dead.... there goes $250 in a hurry lol

Anyway, lets face it.... this hobby is expensive, but it keeps me from going out to the bar and spending $200/night and waking up in the morning thinking... what happened to all the cash in my wallet.... lol.... at least here I know exactly where it went! Good thing this hobby makes me smile more then cry!

I think that's why I love the racing events so much. At least there I have at a couple dozen idiots like myself that actual give a crap that I banged off a 1:08 heat time. Pick your own bench mark. 80 mph, 100mph, a hot heat, 14 offshore laps. It's got to be part of the attraction for the SAW guys too. That's even more niche.

The conversation with a layman sounds like this......

"Oh you set record world speed record? That sounds complicated. How'd ya do it?"
"OH! Well thanks for asking. I used 10s2p in a twin cat pulling about 250 amps. Works out to about 9000 watts, and blah, had an ESC's made to my specifications, blah, custom hardware, propeller balancing, 100's of 3 second test runs, blah, blah, blah"..................aaaaaaaand there's the blank stair of disinterest that we all know and love.

Their next comment is either, "you spent how much time?" or "that sounds expensive".

You do it so someone else that actually knows what that takes will say "hey man, nice job". The forum is great for confirmation but doesn't quite encompass that sense of kindred spirit I get at events. You lose a boat there and we all mourn it's loss. You might even get a hug. LOL
Lmao, you know exactly what I'm talking about! Hahaha!

I wish there was events close enough to me to attend. They just don't care about rc boats in the south I guess!

My older brother used to fly remote control planes and as time went on the planes got bigger and more expensive. His advice to me went along the lines of the best point in the hobby is the mid-point. If the toy gets too expensive it starts to be less fun and more stressful. You end up taking out the fun part of the hobby. You want something fast enough and fun enough, but not so expensive that you have to worry about it. The trick is that "point" varies depending on your personal situation.

I think about that a lot as I place my order for 10s worth of batteries for my T-mono......

Haha.... you are spot on there too! Haha.... glitter, or receipts left in your pockets showing you being somewhere/place you weren't quite supposed to be. lol

Btw, I really hope you find the boat.... sounds like the divers will find it, you'll remember I had to watch my mystic 114 float away only to be found a few hours later when my hope was long lost... so ya never do know.... heres hoping the hatch just broke away, and a bit of WD40 and rice bags may mean a lot is still salvageable... if the power was cut during the crash that would be a bonus too. buy some rice and save what you can.

Thx. I've wrote off the electronics. The motor might still be good. I've already ordered everything except a motor. I'm trying to see if tp power will make a 4060 with an 8mm shaft for me. I'm not wanting to spend a ton on it this go round. I was going to do a 4070 but seems like it's just too big. I know a 4060 will fit. If they can't do an 8mm shaft version then I'll have to rethink things.

Kfxguy: Did you find it yet?

I would try using a sturgeon pole with thick line and a couple of boat-sized treble hooks along with some weights attached to them so that you can pretty much just snag anything that is on the bottom...

No doubt! We were planning on going out there tomorrow but looks like it's gonna be Sunday. I have an idea I think we are gonna do. I was going to get about a 10ft piece of pvc pipe. Then in the end put a t fitting. Then two 4ft pieces of pipe to make a giant "t". Then put put that foam pipe insulation you get from Home Depot on it to help it float a little. I imagine that big of a pipe setup will be heavy. Then drag it along the area and try to do a grid as best I can. I think this is likely the best idea so far......what cha think?

Sorry for your loss, it's like a kick in the nuts and discouraging/frustrating! I can see the questioning of your sanity doing this, but you've been cursed with that mechanical mind that loves puzzle solving and improving things. LOL. With that said I would be surprised if you quit. I wish you the best of luck recovering from this disappointment. You will probably try again, this time with improvements on better floatation. Best wishes
